Sleep Timing Question

My daughter is 3 months old and is a pretty good sleeper already. I do have a question though.
We put her down around 9-930 everynight, she starts getting sleepy around then. She takes 5oz and we put her in the crib and she usually will sleep from around 930 until 245 or 330. This is great and I know that, but here is where my question comes. When she wakes up at 245 or 330, again, we change her diaper and feed her again, but she will only sleep until about 530, gets up and wants to feed again.

Anyone have any ideas why she can sleep so long on the first bottle, but the second one only will hold her about 2hours? What can we do to make the second feeding last as long as the first? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

What can I do next?

For information based upon infant sleep cycles and patterns, you may wish to read the book "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" by Dr. Marc Weissbluth. He is a Chicago-based pediatrician who specializes in infant/child sleep issues with over 30 years of research in the field. You might find the information regarding sleep patterns, circadian rhythms, the 'early wake' you mention, and 'prime time' rather interesting. It would definitely shed some light as to why your child is doing what she is doing.

It doesn't have anything to do with the food. The first sleep segment is usually the longest. Two feedings a night is good at that age. From my experience, though, you might be able to put her to bed a little earlier, but you know her best.

Every child is different. Are you nursing? If you are nursing I find that those babies wake up and need to eat. Those on formula are able to sleep through the night after turning 3 months old. At this age sleeping 9:30-10:30 to 5:30 is sleeping through the night. Go with your gut you know your baby best.
