My daughter is having a sleep study tomorrow and I have questions for the center but they have no one answering phones on the weekends. I am wondering, when she falls asleep around 8 oclock and I cannot sleep until midnight (when I am used to going to bed), will I be allowed to read a magazine or something during this time or will it be "lights out?" I thought I would just read or something during this time but I have been googling around and a lot of places talk about a time when it is "lights out." I will be sleeping in the room with her. There is no way I can sleep at 8 or even 9 oclock! :/ Has anyone been through this with their kiddo?

What can I do next?

My son had a sleep study a few months ago. The arrival time was for 8:00. My husband went with him so I am relaying the info that was told to me. Thye got started right away putting the the "wires" on him but it took almost 2 hours. Then they weren't actually ready for lights out for another half hour.

My son was very cooperative so the process went "quickly" compared to others. They were both exhausted by the time they finished. There was a tv and dvd player and it was encouraged to bring a movie and books. My husband and son did not need any of that but I imagine there are plenty of people that don't go right to sleep.

BTW - my husband sent me a picture after the son was all hooked up. I was SHOCKED at how many wires were all over my son. I can't believe anyone can sleep at all with them on.

Good luck!

I am not sure, but maybe they would let you use one of those small lights that clip onto the book.

Will you be staying in the room with her? I don't know how they do it with children, but when I had a sleep study done several years ago, I was in the small room, with all the wires and monitors on me..... the person doing the monitoring was in a different room...

I can see staying in there until she falls asleep, but I would think you could leave the room after that, and go back in when it is time for you to go to bed.
