Sleep Patterns in Unborn Child Vs. Sleep Patterns in Infants?

I'm so curious to find out what kind of 'sleeper' my little boy (due in December) is going to be. My two girls were always fabulous sleepers. They both slept 12 hours at night from a VERY young age (3 weeks for one and 6 weeks for the other). Could I get lucky again? I did follow strict schedules with my girls. I don't know if that's why they were great sleepers or not, but I'll be doing that again for this one (the schedules are for MY sanity).

So I've already noticed a really solid sleep/wake pattern for my unborn son. He stops moving at about 10pm, and doesn't make a single movement all night long. Then, about 7am, he is as wiggly as can be. He moves a lot all day long. I feel his kicking almost constantly, all day. Then nothing at night. Could it be that he already has a solid sleep/wake rhythm going on??

So did you notice that your unborn child's sleep patterns translated to the same patterns in your infant? Or were they different? I'm keeping my fingers crossed that his seemingly solid schedule holds, and I'll get yet another good sleeper!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Bug... so NOT what I'm hoping for! haha!! If my baby boy turns out opposite, I'll really be in for it!

Our son slept inside me all day as long as I was moving.
Then at night I would sleep soundly while he was kicking up a storm.
He nudged so much he actually kicked Dad out of bed.
The only reason I didn't worry about lack of movement during the day (I seldom felt him) was I knew he was using me as a bounce house all night (Dad would tell me).
He'd get close to my belly button and say "Hey! You! This is your father speaking! Quit kicking me out of bed!" - it was SO cute!
After he was born, he was definitely a night owl.
It took months to get his days and nights switched around.

Yeah, I couldn't tell you what my kids sleep patterns were before I had them because when I am asleep, I am asleep! My kids could be tossing the whole freaking night and it would not have woke me up. That is what I assume made my kids great sleepers, nothing wakes them up either. :)

I heard that it depends on what time of day they are born.

My son was born in the morning. (11a) and did well after a few weeks.
My daughter was born in the afternoon (3p) and had her am/pm mixed up.

I felt my son move almost constantly - he'd wake me up a few times in the middle of the night from his amount of movement. Guess what - he's an extremely active child and the sleep pattern as a baby was the same as in the womb.

My daughter - I was always worried when I was pregnant with her as I hardly felt her move. many times, in between doctor appointments, I'd drink a glass of juice and sit back hoping the rush would move her a little! She was the sleepiest infant ever! She'd sleep all day and night and was extremely laid back!

So funny. I never really thought much about it. I don't remember being kept awake by movements when I was pregnant. I DO remember having the $*(# kicked out of my ribs by both my kids during various daylight hours, though. I never kept track of a "schedule", lol.

Both mine slept fine. I did do some things to "help" them along.... they both were sleeping **"through the night" by 3 months. Daughter by 6 weeks.

**5 or more hours without waking.

My boys were both extremely active in the womb. I don't think they ever stopped moving! Both were/are excellent sleepers, and like you I kept them on strict schedules.

I hope you get another good sleeper!

My son was VERY active from 11:00 pm - 5:00 am every day. VERY active. keeping me awake, flip flops and kicks so hard it was shocking, active. The most he ever woke up at night was once. He started sleeping through the night by 6 weeks. (No effort of my own, I've never been a schedule person.) He was very alert and active during the day. He was SO the opposite of in the womb.

ETA: If you schedule, it will help him not be the opposite. If my son was the same way as in the womb, I would have tried to schedule.
