Buy him a cool big boy bed. We bought a race car bed for my son last year and he thought it was (still is) the coolest thing. Also, if he's scared to stay in his room by himself, get a cool nightlight and/or a bedtime toy that he can take to bed. Hope this helps. :o)

It may not be easy. I have had trouble with both my girls, so I guess you could conclude I have been the root of the problem. What ever the case, there are several methods out there that people will swear by. My best advice is to try the one you are most comfortable with. The cry it out method did not work for either of mine. We are in the process of moving our 23 month old into a room with her sister. Saturday night she cried on and off for more than 3 hours while I was in the bed with her because she wanted her daddy. She is so used to having both of us in bed with her. Last night her dad laid down with her until she was good and asleep. Miraculously she slept through the night. I was very surpised. I don't know how it will go from here on out but I figure if we got her older sister to sleep in her own bed, at some point this one will too.

well not to be too critical but you should have started that way back at around 7 months...just from experience. but this is what i would now recommend, during his nap times put him into his crib, so either he knows he is going to sleep in there or if you rock him to sleep at least he knows he is waking up in his crib (he will become familiar with his surroundings)....and then in the evening do the same-right into the crib. it will definitely take awhile but in the beginning (only during evenings) either he can start in your room but after he falls asleep move him into his crib.
I honestly would try to stop this cold turkey because by the time he is 2 he will think "your bed" is "his bed".
good luck

I had the same problem with my now 7 yr old when he was 2. What I did was bought him a toddler bed and put it right next to our bed, and I held his hand(to let him know I was still there) while he fell asleep. Once a week I would move his bed a few inches from my own. By the end of the month (going into the 2nd month) he was on the other side of the room without needing to hold my hand or sleep in the same bed as me and my husband. It's worth a shot.

A toddler bed is a really good idea, take him with you to pick it out, if it is something he likes he is more likely to sleep in it. The night light help to something that he like that isn't to bright. It might also help to get a childs pillow and a cozy fleece blanket, and a stuffed toy. Some children also sleep well with noise, like a sound machine. He will probably cry the first couple of times but don't give in, simple go in and let him know that he is ok and you are close by.
These are things that should help hope they work as well for you as they have for me and some of my first time mom friends.

okay. i have a 25 month old and one on the way so if you figure this one out please find me and let me know. we've tried putting her in her bed when she's asleep. we've put her to sleep with her big sister. now we just leave her be so we can sleep too. it sure is crowded though.

I know it's hard, mine is 13 months and we started early with him, we started at about 7 months and we put the radio on in his room and his nightlight on before taking him in there and give him his good night kisses and we lay him down, I also turn on his nightlight bear that is in his crib. We tell him good night and we close the door. He cries for about 5-10 min and his is out. I still hate hearing him cry but it works for us.
