My 6 yr old son loves it and it isn't horribly violent or anything. We are getting him the Giants version for Christmas to share with his 12yr old sister.

My son is 6 years old (almost 7) and he has played Skylanders at his cousin's house a few times. He wants it for Christmas, but I am not sure it is really age appropriate for him. Any thoughts?

DS got his at 8 but it would have been great at 6-7 too!
My 5 yo loves it. It's fun for parents to play as well.
The gameplay is totally appropriate for his age. However be aware that it is quite an expensive game in the end. You buy the starter kit, but there are 30 ish figurines at $8-$10 a piece and $19-25 per adventure and 3 pack. The same goes for skylanders giants- around 30 figurines at $9 a piece, $15 per giant (there are 8 giants.) there are also variants and legendaries. So it can really add up. Also scalpers love this game, so pieces become "rare" and "hard to find." Just a heads up!
It is a great fun game. I even like it.
My son is 6.
Last year, he got it from one of his Aunts.
We ALL play it, even my 10 year old daughter.
It is fun.
Just look for sales.
www.gamestop.com has it, as does many stores.
But each store has its own inventory of it.
And it also, often... sells out. And is thus some figures are hard to find. So because it is hard to find, the prices get artificially higher.
Just go to a GameStop store etc., and they will tell you all about it.
My 7 year old loves it, and many of his 7/8 year old friends do too!
Yes its age appropriate . You can get the Skylanders Giants starter pack at Target this week for $50 (it was $75 ).
I think he is the right age. My ten year old says he is too old for it, but my seven year old likes it.
