Sippy Cup Training?

Have you tried the take and toss sippy cups? They are the only one's my daughter likes because they are hard plastic and not the soft ones. The milk can drip out of the tip it your son doesn't suck but it isn't fast and even when he sucks he shouldn't get that much to make him choke.

I know the nubby sippy cups, I was told at Babies R Us, have the slowest flow for training to a sippy cup. My daughter took a long time adjusting to the fast flow, but eventually did. Now she's a pro. I just need her to drink milk out of it not just water! She's so stubburn like her mama and dada!

Those nubby cups are terrible we went through so many of them because our little guy likes to chew so he would break the top. Walmart has some hard top cups that are like .98 that are more shaped like a bottle nipple you might want to try them out to start. I like the gerber sippy cups they are the only ones that we never have a problem with. He'll figure it out sooner our later. start offering some water in it during the day so he's getting it more then just once.

I would try water opposed to breast milk. Right now, the cup is more just for learning, not their primary source for milk, so let him learn with water. Just keep offering it and he'll figure it out very quickly I'm sure. My kids wouldn't take breast milk from a sippy at that age at all. My 15 month old still won't! She'll happily nuse, but won't drink milk from a sippy yet. I think they get used to having their milk the way they're used to it... I think it's a comfort thing. Good luck! Oh, and try the straw sippy, you never know. Took my son a while to figure out a straw, but my daughter got it & loved right away!

I really like the Avent training cups. Just be careful of the soft spout cups like Nuby or Munchkin because my kids have chewed them and bit pieces of silicone off. Whatever cup you use, it will just take time for your son to get used to it. At his age, he is just experimenting with it and with some practice, he will figure out what to do with it. I also recommend water so you don't have to waste milk while he learns and so that he is just practicing with the cup and not using it for calorie intake yet. Just keep offering it - he'll get it!!

Give the straw cup a try. My daughter would ONLY drink from a straw cup. I introduced the sippy cup around the same age and went through EVERY kind and she just wouldn't/couldn't do it and was totally not interested at all. Then we were at a friends house and they had the straw cups and she drank a whole cup of water while we were there. I've never turned back. I get the munchkin ones as you can fold down the top and the straw bends into the cap and it's easy to just toss in the diaper bag and go. You can get them at Babies R Us but I usually order them through Walmart (on-line only) I've found that pipe cleaner that you can get in the craft section is great for really cleaning the inside of the straws. I started my son on an Avent sippy cup w/handles at 6 months old. I just gave him water so he could play all he wanted w/o worries about how much he drank or what he spilled. He did wonderfully and people always used to coment on how impressed they were at such a young age to drink from a sippy so well! I think the trick was at that point (this was 7 years ago) Avent had levels on their sippy nipples that started out as 1 hole and went up to 3. Not sure how the systems have changed, but that's what we did and it worked beautifully!
