Hi Ladies,

I feel completely silly for asking this question because I should know, but it has been so long, I don't know what I should do. I just got my first period since having my baby. When I got my period in the past it was generally medium to heavy for 3 days and then taper off after that.

This time I am having alot of cramps that go all the way around my back almost like contractions--just not painful, more uncomfortable. Then I have been bleeding alot and very light-headed today. I tend to have low blood pressure and I got it checked today and it was too low. Any suggestions on what to do for the cramps and for the pain?

Thanks a million! I haven't had a real period for at least 5 years so its new to me again.

What can I do next?

I think that lots of women have different periods after each child. It's like the body resets itself or something.

I would recommend that you go see your doctor and talk about the low sugar problem. You should also ask if you can get a check on your homoglobin too. I'm wondering if you might be anemic.

Might as well get all the info you can so that you know what to expect and how to deal with it.

Good luck!
Dawn

Each and every pregnancy is different. And you can never be to careful. Better to be safe then sorry. If this really concerns you, call your doctor

Not a silly question at all!

If you are bleeding through one pad in a hour - you need to go to the ER.

Did you get your BP checked by a doctor or a machine at a store? Either way - if it's too low - that is not good. Call your PCP and tell them what is going on.

Is it possible that you were pregnant and having a miscarriage? That might explain the contraction-like cramping, bleeding and light-headedness.

I hope it's just your body getting rid of everything it hasn't in the last 5 years, but I too would be concerned!

My period got heavier after each pregnancy and is really heavy now. I also have low blood pressure. My doctor prescribed Naproxen for the pain and cramping and it also slows the flow. I take iron pills for the anemia. I would go in for a full check up and make sure there is nothing else going on there.

I found that as difficult as they can be sit ups are helpful. If you can not do them due to pain then sitting with your butt flush against a wall and your legs bent and on the wall. If you can alternate your legs bending back and fourth. The bottom line is when I work those muscles the cramps are not nearly as bad. Also a warm bath helps to soothe. It is amazing how difficult that first one can be isn't it?

I got mine last night 2 days earlier than normal. They are usually very light with no cramping. This one though is a nightmare! I'm cramping SO bad I've been taking pain killers and I had to use the heating pad. My back is so sore too. I think every once in a while that happens. If your feeling dizzy, then maybe call your dr?
