Can a "French Press" (or traditional) coffee press also be used for loose tea? Thanks!

Yes, absolutely. You will want to make sure that you are running it through a dishwasher/washing it (dissembled) afterwards. To do so properly is more important after brewing tea than coffee.

Be aware that the process of steeping and pouring or steeping and pressing will affect the quality of taste. You'll want to experiment on steep time, tea leaf ratio to water, and *temperature* of water when poured. I'd suggest rather than pressing all the way, you press half way and pour out cups from there. Also, once pressed you will want to immediately transfer your beverage away from the steeped leaves. Otherwise your tea will taste bitter and out of balance. So press half way, and then pour into cups. What's left will be put into a tea pot.

The same is NOT true for tisanes (which have different qualities than tea), particularly root tisanes.

I don't see why not.
Though seems like tea has more super fine particles in it...Maybe strain it through a coffee filter when you pour it. Unless you don't mind those tea bits. ;)

Very interesting, Ephie!

We go to a restaurant that always serves their tea in a French press.

Looks like Ephie covered it all. The biggest problem I noticed was using the same press for coffee and tea. It is very hard to remove the oils from the coffee so you get a coffee taste in your tea which at least for me is gross.

We have two, one of tea and one for coffee even if it makes my husband scratch his head.

YES! You just really have to be sure that the press is cleaned very well in between uses so that the coffee flavor doesn't come through in the tea and vice verse.
