Should I Tell Some New Friends Today Is My Birthday?

Hi all!

I have lunch plans today with some new mom friends. We have have done a couple of things together before and our kids are friends. Well, today is my birthday and I'm not sure if I should mention it to them. I am not looking to make them feel bad, because there is no way they would have known. This lunch just happened to work in our schedules for today. I have nothing else planned because the kids are in school and hubby at work. It is my personal celebration since no one in my family has asked me what I want to do for dinner or anything. Oh, my kids forgot it is my birthday and my husband even gave me a birthday balloon and left it tied to the coffee pot! The kids still did not catch on. Feeling a little bummed out:( They never did that before. Usually they keep asking and asking about what I want to do!

So, with that being said, should I mention it to them or just keep my little celebration to myself?

Thanks everyone!

Happy birthday!! Maybe when you go to lunch, order a glass of wine and when they raise their eyebrows at drinking at noon, tell them you're celebrating your birthday. Me, personally, I make it a point that EVERYONE knows when my birthday is, LOL!! Have fun :)

Yes, tell them! If you feel weird, just tell them the story of this morning- Your husband tied a balloon to the coffee pot and the kids didn't catch on, and they'll laugh, and then you will hear their birthday wishes!

Hope you have a great day!

Mine is tomorrow. Happy Birthday Pam. I know that is rather tricky. If it comes up in the conversation definitely mention it but out of the blue....hmmm touchy....I am sure during your lunch you'll be asked about upcoming plans...what a convenient way to say...well since its my birthday..I sure hope my husband is planning to take me out...Or I've had such a great morning...Did you know my husband surprised me with a balloon by the coffee pot?..Wasn't that sweet of him...

BTW I sure hope you get treated special...Have fun!

Happy Birthday To You!

Absolutely tell them- If I found out about my friend's birthday "after the fact" and knew I was with her I would feel terrible!

Let them know that you will be ordering dessert b/c it's your birthday e/o knows that calories don't count on your birthday!

Definitely tell them so they can share your special day with you. I am kind of bad with remembering dates (among other things lol) and I get so angry with my one best girlfriend (of almost 20 yrs!) who refuses to remind me - its like she just wants to get upset with me- when I would never forget her birthday on purpose!!!! If she would just remind me (I don't forget every year just a couple times) then I would apologize profusely and celebrate with her instead of hard feelings!

Happy birthday. Maybe you could make a joke of it. Like say, "So, do I look 30, 40 (however old you are)? Today's my birthday. Or you could say, "Thanks for doing this lunch get together today. It's a nice way to spend my birthday."

If you want and you feel comfortable doing so. I'm sure that your other mom friends would enjoy celebrating your birthday with you and they'll gladly sing happy birthday to you as the wait staff brings out your free birthday dessert. It will be a good bonding moment for you and your other mom friends. Friend do know each other's birthdays and enjoy celebrating it with them.

Happy Birthday! Yes you should tell them!

And as for your kids forgetting your birthday..... that's your fault. My kids never forget mine because I do a countown of days and ask them when they're shopping and tell them when it's "birthday eve day." I don't really care about the gift, but I do care that they remember. Don't let your kids forget. Make it fun!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I personally would not but that is my personality type. I don't care for that type of attention. Birthdays depress me.

I go all out and celebrate for daughter but I don't want the attention on me.

If you choose to announce it, couch it so that it does not come across that you are lookinng for a free lunch. You new friends will feel obligated to do something.

Yeah I would! Wherever it fits into conversation, you can just say what a pick me up your lunch date is bc it's your bday and you don't really have any other plans for the day :D Then they will get the chance to wish you happy bday and you will feel better!

How old are your kids? If they are small, you cannot be upset that they forgot your birthday b/c it is not their job to remember - it is your husband's job to tell them it is your birthday and your husband should have bought you a card for your children to give you. If your children are older, it would be nice if they remembered, but still not really their responsibilty to remember. They are kids! From now on, save yourself the pain and start talking about your birthday to your family a week before, so they will know/remember it is coming up. Don't "test" them by not mentioning your birthday to see if they remember. Big mistake! Just say things like, "Guess who's birthday is coming up next week? That's right, Mommy's!" Or, "Who wants to eat birthday cake with Mommy next week to celebrate my birthday?"

About your new friends - sure, you can mention to them it's your birthday. You can say, "I am so glad that we are having lunch today because it happens to be my birthday, and I am happy to celebrate it with my new friends." How else do you get to know someone if they don't tell you things, right? Happy Birthday!

I understand you're disappointed, but I wouldn't want to make others feel bad for not knowing or doing anything. So I'd keep my mouth shut.

Stop off on the way home from your lunch and pick yourself up a little carton of your favorite ice cream or a new book. That can be your gift to yourself.

I bet your DH and the kids will take you out for dinner tonight or this weekend.

Sometimes that's how things go when we have busy schedules. I can't remember the last time we celebrated birthdays ON the day for us grownups. Usually it's just cards and maybe a little cupcake.

I would just casually mention so glad we could do lunch today cause its my birthday and hanging out with you as my new friends makes it that more special. And get yourself a giant sized cake to eat for desert! Then go home and figure out what you want you and your hubby to do for dinner, and if you want to go out try and find a babysitter and then go out. Do what you want to do, even if it means planning it yourself. Dont be bummed do something about it! Perfect chance to do things for you today! Go for it, and have a happy b-day!! :)
