Help Mommas -
I have always had dry hair, but it seems to be out of control now. I only wash it two/three times per week depending on activities. I try to keep it up out of the water during swim lessons. I asked my stylist about a month ago and she recommended an Aveda deep moisturing conditioner. I have been using this product, but I am not seeing any results. Am I just not waiting long enough? The conditioner was $30 (which is much more than I have ever spent before) and as I stated I am not ecstatic about it. I have very thick, brown, mid-back length hair. I will never have the smooth, shiny hair because my hair is very coarse which I am fine with. It gives it a nice wave. I just don't like that I can pick just about any strand of hair and snap it in two or more pieces.
Also what do others use on their kid's hair? We just started using a suave kid shampoo. It seems to help a bit with the tangles.

do you have any mayo in the fridge if so put it all over hair for 30 mins then wash out. It really does work i fried my hair in beauty school and we always did the mayo treatment everytime we bleached our hair.
A while ago I used to dye my hair pretty regularly and I stripped the oils from my hair. When it was wet I could barely get a comb through it and it would be really dry looking when it was dry. Well, I used V05 hot oil treatment on it and it really helped put some shine and moisture back into my hair. I used to once a week for about a month and it worked. The only thing is is I am not sure they even make it anymore! But there maybe something else out there that works the same way.
Also, diet plays a big part too. Make sure you are eating healthy fruits and vegetables and getting plenty of calcium. Good luck!
Are you using Aveda Dry Remedy, or something else? If you are using the Aveda Dry Remedy shampoo and conditioner and your hair is still dry, I'm not even sure what to suggest! Recently I was on a medication that dried me out to the point that my hair felt like straw. I used the Dry Remedy shampoo (which has the consistency of mud, but don't let that scare you) and conditioner and did have wonderful results. I actually had to alternate it with another shampoo/conditioner because it was making my hair TOO moisturized. So, if what you're using is Dry Remedy, then never mind - but if that's not what you're using, then give it a try... (use both the shampoo and conditioner).
We use the Overa shampoo and absolutely love it! You can get it at https://www.jdpremium.com/9185/products/overa/1060. One thing that I love about it is that it is all natural with no toxins and you can actually pronounce the ingredients! We also use it with our kids and we have loved the results.
Nexxus Humectress Therappe. Yes it's pricey but you can get it at Costco. I have to hide it in the shower or DH will put a ton in his hair (which completely does not need it). I also use the Nexxus Humectress leave in conditioner afterwards. I use Pantene conditioner in DS's hair. His is very curly and fly away without it and great with it.
I swear by Wen Hair Care System ... it worked day ONE! It seems pricey but I spend the same amt on this system as I would on drug store products because I do use less products over all. My sister uses it too and she would say the same thing. In fact, I nearly cried the first time I used it and did a blow out because my hair was soft and managable again.
I use shampoo and conditioner that says moisture on it. It may also say for dry hair. You can find some at a salon but it will be very expensive and you get a small bottle-but that works OR you can be cheap which is what I prefer and see what you can find at the store. Again it should say moisture on it and/or for dry hair.
We use Dove Deep Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner. I usually use Aveeno on DD for shampoo but we use the same conditioner per the pediatrician's advice. DD has very curly hair and mine is wavy.
Sometimes when my hair feels like straw, I rinse it with vinegar and water. I put some vinegar, about 1/2 cup, in a large drinking cup, and fill with water. Then in the shower, I wet my hair, pour the vinegar mix. over my hair, rub it in, and let it sit in my hair while I wash everything else. Then I rinse and shampoo/condition like normal. It works great to get rid of all the build up which can make hair feel like straw. I have even done it to my 5 yo dds and it helped with their tangle issue.
