Sense of Humor Needed: Party Ideas

Sheesh. Another birthday party question. What can I say, we like to party. :)
My husband's birthday is 12/22 and that whole Mayan calendar thing is 12/21. So Jer jokingly pouted that we should have his party early or he could be "cheated". (He's not a flake, he was joking). I looked at the calendar: 12/21 is a weekend, so I thought that was actually a cute idea and a potential theme that doesn't come around very often. We started tossing around ideas at breakfast this morning and were thinking something like an end of the world party (a wall or horrors? make a video with our dvd projector of end of the world clips like.....Manchester United scoring a goal, or country line dancing coming back, etc), or a Mayan theme (I don't know "Mayan" music but I have some great Native American music CDs and people could get the idea....we could have a contest to pick out the most normal, meaningless stuff from today and see how they could be misconstrued or read too much into a few thousand years from now, have some unusual neat foods adapted from something they may have eaten, etc), or even go silly and do a survivalist party and serve MREs instead of a dinner just for laughs....I don't know what direction to go in because I like all 3 themes. Any thoughts/opinions on a theme, and all fun ideas would be appreciated. I know it's a little early but I want this to be a fun party we can smile about for years to come.

What can I do next?

You should really be putting your time & energy into preparing for the apocolypse instead of this nonsense.

JUST KIDDING!! I like all 3 of your ideas, too, but I might skip the MRE one because, well, people usually want to eat food at parties that they actually like & that definitely doesn't count! I think my favorite would be the one with the projector with silly stuff to be considered "end of the world events".

A friend of mine had an "End of Days" party last year in May - on the same day that those nuts thought that the rapture was going to occur last year. It started with a barbeque. Then, around the time the rapture was set to occur- around 6 pm- we built a raging bonfire. Ash was going everywhere and falling from the sky like rain. It was awesome. We all brought something personal to burn that was "getting us down" - one girl lost 50 lbs and brought her old clothes to burn, one person brought a picture of his ex wife (lol), etc. Burn those burdens that you don't want to take into the "afterlife". lol Then we shot off fireworks to replicate the hellfire and brimstone. It was so much fun.

LOVE this idea! It would be hilarious.
Don't forget to put empty clothing outfits out on the lawn like people did during the "rapture scare".
What about a useless item time capsule? People could bring over-rated things from here & now that in 1000 years would have NO frame of reference (VCR, VHS tape, CDs, etc).
I think all 3 themes can be combined into O. fun party!

Love this!!! Love the MRE’s, as a joke, with real food to follow, maybe after midnight as a celebration of your survival. You can put out copies of Nostradamus Predictions and the Mayan Predications and all the other crazy end of the world predictions. Party colors can be black and gray.

I love the idea of an "it's the end of the world as we know it party". Too cool! I wouldn't have MRE's for the food but I would have a survival kit as a party favor. A couple of MRE's, couple of bottles of water, order cheap flashlights from oriental trading, ect. Sounds like a blast!

You could also do the Prince thing and "party like it's 1999" with a 90's theme. I love your ideas, how fun and creative!
