Selling on Ebay - Fort Stewart,GA

This is our first time selling items on ebay, and we have a question. We are waiting for payment for 3 out of the 10 items that sold (including 1 that was purchased as buy it now). We limited the listing to paypal payments only. I thought that if someone buys an item that they had to pay for it immediately. We have bought items on ebay before and have always had to pay upfront. How do we go about receiving payments?

By the way, we know that there is a waiting period for payments received to make sure that the buyer actually gets what was paid for, but our ebay account says we are awaiting payments for 3 items and that the checkout is not complete.

So What Happened?

Thanks for the info so far! Including a deadline to pay in the listing is a great thing to do when we repost some items that didn't sell.

So, how are we still awaiting a payment for something that was purchased through buy it now on Friday?

In order to require immediate payment, you have to make the selection titled "require immediate payment" when listing the item. You can only require immediate payment under "buy it now" listings I believe. If you list something as an auction, you run the risk of the person taking days to pay, or never paying. This is one of the major drawbacks of ebay.

What I do is this: In my auction listing, I make VERY CLEAR the item must be paid for within 4 days of the auction's end or I will relist and I will file a non paying bidder claim. That way, people cannot say they didn't know. You choose how long you are willing to wait, some people wait longer than 4 days, some less.

ETA: I am not sure what Christy is referring to, but a buyer doesn't need to leave feedback in order to pay you. I pay all the time without leaving feedback and vice versa. They simply need to log in to pay pal/ebay and pay!!

ETA: Because you didn't select "require immediate payment" when you listed the buy it now listing. You have to select that. Unless you do, someone could still do a "buy it now" on your listing and never pay......

Technically, someone has 7 days to pay for an item bought through auction on Ebay, before you can file a claim through Ebay for non-payment. Although you can state in your listing (Kindly please pay for your item within 48 hours of auction's close -- this is what I do myself), this is NOT binding.

After four days of non-payment, however, you can begin the process of filing a "non-payment" claim through Ebay. They will send the buyer a notice and they then have four more days to complete the transaction (I believe it's four days, anyway, but you can check on Ebay's community forum, there is a wealth of knowledge there!!) Ultimately, they may not pay you and Ebay MAY put a strike on their record. You will receive your final value fees back at this point and be free to relist the item or offer a second chance offer to the next highest bidder, if there were any.

Now, I do believe that you can cancel a transaction yourself if you don't want the hassle of dealing w/ someone that hasn't paid in a timely manner.

If you require immediate payment on your BIN, you must select this option when you are creating your listing. If you don't, then they will have 7 days to pay for it, as a regular auction. If you DO select 'immediate payment required' on your listing, then Ebay prompts them for payment immediately and the sale is not complete until they pay.

I've been buying/selling on Ebay for a long time now, PM me if you need clarification.

Did you "send the invoice"?
And you can specify that you require payment within x amount of days in your selling info. Then if they don't pay, you can re-list.

Some people pay right away--others wait. You can always send them a message.
