Has anyone ever done this? Can you reccomend a company to do so? The company we bought from does not offer selling services and the couple I contacted want atleast 1k up front. The lady we bought ours from said to not use anyone that charges up front fees. Im at a loss here. Weve never used it, and its an awesome deal. Just wanting to get rid of it since my husband travels and is never home.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for yalls help! It is a points type thing. It can be used all over the world. Our balance is just at 10k so it wouldnt be worth us defaulting on. I dont really have any friends or family that could afford to take a trip with me even with using our time share. Guess we will just keep banking these points and take an amazing vacation in a few years :)

Timeshares are sooooooooooooooo hard to sell. If you look at all of the companies that offer resale, the prices are super low because the inventory is so high and demand is low. Can you join RCI or another points type place and then bank your weeks until you find the time and desire to go somewhere? Or how about giving your week away to family or friends who might want to pay the exchange fee/annual cost in exchange for a "free" vacation?

And yes - as with most things, don't pay to sign up with a service that will sell your timeshare. There's no guarantee that they'll sell it, but there IS a guarantee you'll pay the fee. Do a little searching to see how much a similar timeshare goes for (same week/property if possible). - that will at least help you determine whether you'll save more by trying to sell, or whether it's worth it to default.

Depends what kind of timeshare. If it's deeded (not a "points" type thing, but you actually own a piece of the property), and in a good location, you won't have trouble selling it. If it's points or in a location that's not super-desirable, you probably should just join RCI, bank your week(s), and exchange them for somewhere you want to go (even if you go by yourself or with your kids).

We have a good, reputable broker in Hawaii if your timeshare is there. I trust her, and we have known her for years. I'd be happy to send you her info if you'd like. Even if your timeshare is somewhere else, she might still be a good resource, since she knows how the industry works.

Oh my gosh-go without him.
If we had a timeshare that we paid for-I would use it.

timeshares are notoriously hard to unload. Have you thought of joining an exchange program instead? RCA Travel has a nice program and you can trade your week for places all over the country. If you just want out, you will probably have to resort to just not paying for it anymore and let it default. My father was involved in this industry for a long time and unfortunately thats what most people ended up having to do. I would NOT pay anyone up front to do anything, that is good advice.
