Self Control/ Eating Issues

I have been feeling sick this week. I had my gallbladder out in early summer. I was nauseated for a few months after and dropped 30 pounds. I have been feeling much better lately, but this week has not been good. I have had a stomach ache/ausea and my 16 month old has been having "wet gas" She did this 3 weeks ago when a tooth came in. I though we may have a virus, but I am not entirely sure. I have been eating things I shouldn't. So, I have lost 2 pounds this week eating baked potatoes, soup, crackers, but still feel sick.
So my next issue is this. Should I completely change my diet, like going more towards a vegan lifestyle? I was thinking about all the processed foods I eat and all the soda I drink, like 20 cans since sunday!. I would still eat seafood, and dairy, but maybe give up red meat all together and eat chicken sometimes? I just do not know what to do and how do you guys have self control to follow this. I have been trying to give up diet coke for a while and it is truly an addiction!

Here are a few tips:
1) With soda I started by substituting it with club soda and fruit juice. Work up to a 1part juice to 3 parts club soda ratio or less. However, even if you use a lot of juice it is still a whole lot better for you that soda (especially diet) It isn't as sweet but it is the sodium you crave. Its a lot like an Italian Soda.
2) Try starting out small. We have meatless dinners about 3-4 times a week. Cheese raviolis with marinara sauce and a salad or veggie. Or baked potato night with options of cheddar cheese, sauteed onions & bell peppers, or broccoli.
3) My rule of thumb for meals it that at least half of my plate it filled with veggies or fruit.--salad, steamed veggies, fresh fruit, etc.
4) Here is the hard one (at least for me) eat small meals every 2-3 hours. It helps with your metabolism and you make better choices because you are not ravenous. My problem--I get so busy during the day that I eat mostly at night then I want dessert & snack after dinner.
Change is not easy and we all struggle with eating but making conscious choices to be healthy is a step in the right direction.
Hope this helps!

I just had my gallbladder removed a month ago so I totally understand. A low-fat diet is what works the best for me. I do have a hard time sticking to it though (why do the tasty foods have to be 'bad' for you?) Processed foods can be VERY high in fat, and because your body cannot digest fat quite as well without the gallbladder, that may be what is making you sick. Could there possibly be the chance that you are pregnant again?

My motto is that if it is not in the house then I can't eat it or drink it. So, I don't buy it. Shop on the 'outside' of the grocery store. (Meaning don't go up and down the aisles.) Try it once. You will see that you can get almost everything you need this way. The main things I get IN the aisles are whole grain pastas and brown rice. I also keep my freezer stocked with frozen veggies. I occasionally go down the baking aisle. If we are going to 'cheat' then it will be some homemade something. Good luck!

I don't think you have to be as extreme as vegan, to be healthy. (I have nothing against being vegan!) I would suggest DEFINITELY cutting out diet coke, they are so bad. Other then that, just have a balanced diet. Eat fruit and vegetables with every meal, lean proteins, and lots of water. Make your portions of vegetables much bugger then the meats. Snack healthy. Instead of junk, eat peanut butter on fruit, snack on veggies, etc. Simply don't buy anything, you don't want in your body. If it's around, you'll be too tempted.

I would cut the 20 cans of soda before I cut the protein.
