My question is has anyone had a tubal implant? Its where the place a spiral wire in your tubes and then scare tissue grows over it so the eggs can't go through.
I was just wondering if you have had complications or know anyone that might have had it so I can know what to expect. Thanks

So What Happened?

Thank you to everyone. I can but can't have anymore kids because of my high cholesterol they say If I got pregnant again I could have a stroke or worse. So for me this seems like a good idea I just wanted to make sure the complications where not to bad. I will keep you updated thanks again
I decided to have a tubal instead of the implant. I am really happy about my decision thanks for all your responses

wow...I'm a nurse and have never heard of this! Since you can't control, or see, how much scar tissue is actually created, I would be concerned that there would still be access for the egg to follow through. I personally have had a tubal ligation, and even that is never 100%. Just discuss all the avenues with your doc and hope everything goes well!

I had the Essure procedure done last April. It only took about 30 minutes with minimal discomfort and then we were up and gone. I went back in July to have a dye test run to make sure that the scar tissue had formed and nothing could get by! Everything looked great and I haven't been on birth control since. I loved the easiness and the freedom of not having to worry about more kids. I love the two I have, don't get me wrong, but I have my hands full with them! Good luck!!

The procedure is called ESSURE. I had it done and LOVE it! No hospitalization (its done in the doctor's office), no surgery, no anesthesia (not needed) its like getting a pap smear with/on valium. I walked out of the office already recovered 15 minutes after it was done. No pain except an occassional mestraul like cramp.

Its called Essure, and yes it is really new. My doc is hopefully going to start doing the procedure in May in my practice. What happens is like a little metal spring is put into your tubes and the tissue grows around it. You cannot trust it for at least 3 months until the doc can check to make sure it has fused right. Its an in office visit, estimating maybe a 10-20 min procedure. Its a non-hormonal Permanent BC, which is such a blessing since my body can't handle hormones well and I know that im done having children. If your absolutely sure that your done, then this would be a great option but if not, there is no going back on this procedure. Im just waiting till may for the practice to start so Ill hopefully be able to tell u something then lol....I hope this helps. But if you type in ESSURE in google, there is a website that explains everything about the procedure. OH, I almost forgot, essure is covered on almost all insurances so all you have to do is pay the co-pay, whatever your co-pay may be, and your good to go!

Yes, I had the Essure procedure done in December. I'm having my confirmation X-ray next month to make sure that the springs stayed in place and did what they're supposed to do. As for what to expect--according to my doctor it's different for everyone. My doctor had me take vicodin before the procedure plus something else (forget the name) which had me very crampy the morning of the procedure--plus it essentially "evacuated" my bowels if you know what I mean. The procedure itself took about an hour and was uncomfortable for me and at times painful. But once it was over, my husband took me home and I slept the rest of the day, took it really easy the next day and was basically on my feet the day after that. I did bleed pretty much straight through to my next period, which was a pretty heavy one. After that, all back to normal as far as I know. Having been through it, it was a bit bigger of a deal than I expected, but not something I would have avoided had I known exactly what was going to happen. Hope this helps! My doctor recommended this to me as well. It is apparently a really great procedure! From what I understood, as long as the scar tissue grows around the spring the way it is supposed to, it is 100% effective. The only hang up for me was that it was permanent....once you have it done, there is no reversal. That scared me since I am only 26 (although I am pretty sure 3 boys are plenty for me :-) I guess if you are positive you don't want any more kids, then that would be an excellent option! Good luck!

Yes i have had this procedure done in dec. of 06. I haven't had any complications thus far. The whole process only took 45 minutes and i was actually able to walk out of the hospital myself. It was painless.

I hope this helps.

Hi A.,
I think you are talking about Essure and if you then I may be able to give you a little insight because I have had this procedure after my second child. First the doctors want to or should make sure you are ready to make the decision because the procedure is permanent, it cannot be reversed. I am someone who is petrified with getting cut, going under all that stuff and I can say that getting this procedure was painless. Here's my story maybe it will help you

I went in to my ob's office and was given I think a vicadin, can't remember the name but anyways I got a pain killer. Then I sat in the office for about an hour to let the medicine kick in then the nurse took me to an exam room and I sat in a chair with my legs in the stirups. The doctor came in and showed me all of the equipment and explained to me that it would feel like having a vaginal exam which it did!! There is a camera that they use and they go in through the vagina (it didn't hurt at all) and then you watch (on the screen) them put the coils in the proper place and thats it. Once he removes the equipment you can get up and walk out. The only discomfort I had was a little cramping that day and a little the next day, to compare my periods are worse. Then in about 3 months you would go back to your ob and they will inject dye (the same way as they did the procedure) to make sure everything is where it is suppose to be. After that you should be cleared for takeoff.
I cant say enough good things about this. It was fast and I was able to go back to work the next day, actually I could have the same day I just didn't. They have a website Essure.com that has tons of great info also and should be able to give you a list of qualified doctors. I hope this helps!!

Keep a Journal of everything. What she comes in contact with (soaps/foods/surfaces just cleaned with something etc) how you treat it and the times. It might be tedious, but may give an answer faster.

Also, has she had anti-biotics in the last 2 weeks? Many children show a delayed reaction particularly to penicillin/amoxacillin family of drugs.

Good luck!

Iv'e never heard of this one. It must be fairly new. How will the doc know if the scar tissue has formed completely and how thick it is? Is this used as a more reversable proceedure,in case the patient changes her mind down the road? There is a lot to do in order for one to stay on top of modern medicine. I think it may have left me in the dark on this one! Good luck A..
