Doesn't your insurance have a directory of doctors/psychiatrists?
I'd start there and then look for reviews of the names you find in your area.
HI Moms! I hope you had a good weekend.
I'm looking for a Psychiatrist in McKinney or in the surrounding area. I have depression and severe anxiety and want to find a great doctor. I was considering Dr. Mir in Allen, but most of the reviews I read about her were terrible.
If you know of one you'd recommend, I'd really appreciate it.
**Update
What I was hoping to get is a few referrals from doctors some of you may have already seen and were very happy with, as I've already seen a few Psychiatrists as well as counselors and have been very disappointed. It gets very frustrating and expensive searching for a doctor. So, if any of you have any personal experience from a local Psychiatrist, please let me know. Thank you.
Oh, and I do know that I can call my insurance to get referrals.

I'm sorry I don't have anything for you, but I just want to tell you that I hope you get help and feel better soon. Kudos for you for trying to find some help, rather than trying to deal with this on your own.
Have your primary care recommend, but I would look for a good Psychologist rather than a Psychiatrist. Psychologists don't prescribe, but they can recommend, then your Dr. could prescribe. The psychologist will provide therapy which is often better or in combination with medication.
Many psychiatrists are often medicating rather than providing counsel.
I had many years battling depression with counseling and medication, then through nutrition with a scientific approach through food science with patented products, that is all in the past. Over the past 8+ years, I have met and helped many people the same way and they were able to get off depression and anxiety medications. It feels so much better to be medication free and not have to deal with all those side effects.
I don't know anyone in your area - but I just want to provide some advice based on our family's experience -
We had tried a few psychatrists before we found a good one. We found the more beautiful the office, the less competent the doctor was. Don't know if that's universal - but if they're all about having a gorgeous office and waiting room it seems they're more interesting in charging a lot of money and seeing a lot of patients. There were 2 who actually probably did more harm than good by simply increasing the dosage of a certain medication which led to suicide attempts - when there were very public black box warnings on using a particular drug with teenagers.
IMHO, talk counselors are the best place to start - they can refer you to good psychatrists who can then form a diagnosis with your talk counselor and monitor, adjust or change medication as needed.
Our daughter's talk counselor - who we did not stay with for more than a few months - made an excellent recommendation to a psychatrist she had worked with. He was a man, with an accent - and a small, very unimpressive office - but he made an accurate diagnosis and made medication changes right away and was always willing to tweak it and make changes if needed (and he has). We never would have picked this guy out of a book - but he's thorough, asked our child and us many, many questions, spent a lot of time with both our child and us - and spent all the time needed in those first few months.
Don't be afraid to change doctors and start over - yes it won't be cheap - but isn't your well-being and health worth it?
