Seeking Private School for Above Average Intelegent Boy with Behavioral Issues

My son has had some acting out in kindergarten so we took him to a therapist who said that he was just really smart and couldn't be made to be a robot. To this we were like "yeah right. He is just acting up!" Well, we finally decided to go and get some testing done because I was sure that he had some neurological problems.

It turns out he has an IQ of 139, that is in the top 1% of the population. We are going to do an achievement test to find out what level he is working at next. Well, I have spoken to some private schools honestly about the issues and they say I should look into schools that cater to ADHD and Aspergers type issues. I am not comfortable with that since that is not the problem. All the professionals around him seem to think that he just can't relate to kids his age and isn't challenged so he makes trouble. Does anyone know of a good school in the Frisco/Plano/North Dallas area that may be able to help us? Please share your stories.

Thanks Mamas!

So What Happened?

Thank you all for those responses, but I am looking for a school that doesn't have a stigma. When you think shelton or winston you think ADHD and everyone has said he doesn't have that, so I don't want to stigmatize him.

I would see if you can't get him into the gifted and talented program at school. I think they can get tested after they finish kinder. I hate to hear that your son has been labeled a "behavior problem" when he's really just bored. I know there are magnet schools around but they are (I think) mostly for older kids or inner city, low socio-economic populations. I'm not sure where you live but I know of several private schools in Mckinney and Frisco that are excellent and (I think) set the standards for learning higher than public schools. I don't think that labeling him with "ADHD" is necessary b/c he's just bored. Personally, I think that teachers are quite capable of handling "acting out" with kids and should be able to keep your son challenged. I think that every child, at some point, does experience acting out just as part of growth and development. So, I would see about getting him into gifted and talented or into a private school. Concordia Christian Academy in Mckinney is excellent. I've also heard of the Christian academy in Frisco as very excellent. Good luck!
