Have you looked into Headstart? That program is based on income, but is another possibility.
My daughter will turn 4 in a couple of weeks. She has always been taken care of by grandma while mom & dad work full-time. I would like to enroll her in preschool this coming fall, but don't know what nearby Public school offers preschool. It seems that the schools in Bolingbrook offer only preschool to children with speech problems. I'd like for my daughter to start some type of schooling since she's a very curious and bright child. Can anyone advise me? I know one option is to put her in a daycare that offers preschool, but unfortunately, my husband and I cannot afford it.

A.,
When I started my search for pre-schools, I contacted the kindergarten in my area and they sent me a list of all the preschools within their school district.
Maybe your school system has a similar listing to get you started on your search.
Good luck,
F.
Bolingbrook has a great preschool program however they do need to have delays and be screened in order to qualify. There are several different preschools through the park district howver I believe the lottery for it has already closed. I send one of my kids to Divine Shephard Little Lambs preschool.. my other son goes to Valley View however I he willn o longer have an IEP next year (I hope) so I will send him to little lambs next year too. They have a great school and are affordable! They are on Lily Cache call and ask for Ms. Sue tell her F. said to give them a call to check out the program. Hope that helps feel free to email me if you want to discuss it further.. Ia m in Bolingbrook too!
I am pretty familiar with the Bolingbrook area, and know some of the local preschools. Your best options are looking into the preschools that the local churches offer. They are usually really good, and they get to learn a little more than they would in a public school. The prices are very similar to other places ranging from $100-150 a week. Good luck.
Check again to see if there is availablity once they fill the needs of the "speech" children. The school has to have a full class or they loose monies. Also any preschool you go to ask them for an application for grant monies that are free to you due to income.
Day cares that offer preschool really do cost an arm and a leg. I'm a single mom, and my exhusband pays for the preschool at Goddard. Its unbelievable how much he pays. But I would look into the park district in bolingbrook. I went to park district preschool as a child and remember it being great. MY neice is in preschool at the aurora park district off of eola. I've dropped her off and picked her up, she just loves it. Hope that opens another option for you to look into.
Go to www.isbe.state.il.us/ -- This is the Illinois State Board of Ed. Public schools are now required to offer FREE preschool to those that qualify. Similar to the free lunch program -- all public schools must offer this preschool at no charge. It's a program called Preschool for All. (Some private childcare centers are even offering this, since they are subsidized by the govt)
I just went to the web and this is the cover story on their site:
Illinois recognized as national leader for commitment to early childhood education
National report ranks state second in the nation for preschool accessibility for 3 year olds; Illinois State Board of Education accepting applications from preschool providers for 2007-2008 school year
Governor Rod R. Blagojevich announced today that Illinois is being recognized as a national leader for its commitment to making quality preschool available to all three- and four-year olds according to a report published by the National Institute for Early Education Research of Rutgers University. Unlike other states, Illinois has increased its funding for early childhood education through Gov. Blagojevich’s Preschool for All, which the report says will continue to increase access in the future.
“Preschool for All is a top priority of ours because we know how much quality teaching and learning at an early age helps kids succeed in the future,” said Gov. Blagojevich. “We’re doing the right thing for the future of our children and the future of Illinois by making quality preschool available to all of our children.”
