I do not have black tile but in my heavy traffic areas I use throw rugs with a good backing on them. They also brighten the darkness from the color of tile.
Does anyone have black tile in their home? Is it in a high traffic area? anyone have it in the kitchen? does it show dirt/dust? how is the maintenace? overall what are your thoughts and ideas? can anyone recommend a tile expert?

I don't but my parents have black granite floors in their kitchen and to my surprise you can actually see dirt very well. The black shiny surface almost acts like a mirror. When it's clean its absolutely beautiful, but takes some good on your hands and knees cleaning to get it done well. Hope this helps you out a bit!
Depends on what kind of tile you get -- textured, or high-gloss? Thickness? Textured? I recommend going to Tim's Carpet & Interiors on Pine by Broadway. They're reputable, and have good cust. service, plus a huge tile selection upstairs. Good luck!
I HAVE TILE IN MY KITCHEN , COUNTER TOPS AND FLOOR ! MY ADVICE TO YOU IS EITHER BUY ALL PLASTIC DINNER WARE AND GLASSES CUPS USE NO GLASS BAKING DISHES. OR PLAN TO REPLACE THEM OFTEN, ALSO KEEP A SUPPLY OF TILES ON HAND .IF YOU DROP SOMETHING ITS GONE! AND POSIBILY THE TILE WILL CRACK OR CHIP..i HAVE HAD BLACK IN MY KITHCEN AND IT SHOWS DUST AND DIRT , MILK SPLATTERS IF YOU MISS WIPING IT ALL UP...... I LOVE A BLACK AND WHITE KITCHEN BT FROM MY EXPERINCE WITH TILE AND NEW DISHES EVERY FEW MONTHS AND YEP LOTS OF GLASSES..I WILL NEVER DO IT AGAIN . BATHROOMS MAYBE ...KITCHEN NEVER AGAIN! ANY FLOOR SPECILIST SHOULD BE ABLE TO HELP YOU...GOOD LUCK
A cheap tile outlet store is Tiles R Us on 1st and Lander. They don't have a huge selection, but it is cheaper. They have a lot of porcelain tiles, marble, granite etc. Also I would suggest going to Art Tile out in the Maple Leaf area - maybe on Roosevelt - can't quite remember the address. Don't go on a weekend, it's too busy to get any help. But it will change your ideas about tiling. I've never gone in there and not come out with an entirely different and much better idea than what I went in with.
My husband sells flooring so I asked him he said that if you really wanted black tile that a matte finish that isn't solid black would be your best bet but overall he wouldn't recommend black tile for a heavy traffic area because it will show a lot of dirt but on the other hand if you don't mind cleaning it regularly than you should just get what you want so that you can be happy with your new home. I do know some people in Portland but I am not sure what there store is called. if you would like me to find out just send me a message and I will call for you
While porcelain tile is beautiful I wouldn't recommend using black. Black tends to show dirt, etc. far more than white or the other lighter colors. Good luck with your new home and enjoy!
Oh I have it in my kitchen. I have a hairy white dog so it shows up all that hair. I guess if you don't have pets you might be good.
I'm unsure about Porcelin tile, but I HAD ceramic tile in my kitchen, and it's virtually in destructable and you can clean it with absolutely anything. I used bleach most of the time and it looked great. I think porcelin is a bit more expensive and less durable. Hope this helps,
