Hi Mama's

Soon we will need to decide what type of flooring to put down in a kitchen and two bathrooms. We had linoleum in all three areas before water pipes burst and caused a ton of damage. So, what do we go with?? I like ceramic for the look and how well it will hold up but I can't stand how cold it is. I like linoleum because I won't have cold feet but I know that it scuffs easily. I'd love to hear your pro's and con's of ceramic tile, whole piece linoleum or linoleum tiles. I suggested a faux wood flooring but that didn't win anyone over. This is going into a home that is mostly used in the spring & summer and always has a crowd of people/kids so durability is important. Thanks

What can I do next?

I personally love tile. It is so much more durable than anything else! In certain areas, you can get heating put under the tiles (we are doing that in our bathroom because I hate cold floors too :). If you plan to do the work on your own, I wish you luck! Flooring can be a nightmare if not installed correctly. If you decide to have someone else do it, my boyfriend is a contractor and could come out and give you a quote and look at the areas for you and tell you what kind of flooring works best for the particular area. He does great work and is very reasonable. You can either email him at ____@____.com or give him a call at ###-###-####.His name is Angus.

I always suggest ceramic, it holds up forever! If the cold feet really bothers you (I love how cool it feels in the summer) you can have heating installed under the tiles in places that you stand often, like in front of the tub and bathroom sink. I have ceramic on my whole main floor of my house which is one big great room. I also have it in all 3 of my bathrooms. I would never have anything else after this! None of mine have heated tiles, I do keep the temp pretty much at 70 year around, but have never been bothered by cold feet.
I love how easy it is to clean and how nice it always looks!

Good Luck!

Between the two, I would choose ceramic, however, have you considered porcelain tile? Just a thought. It is heavier than ceramic and its durability is incredible. I just put porcelain in a huge part of my basement. We were considering ceramic tiles, even slate. This tile is amazing. You are right....either ceramic or porcelain are cooler but, for durability - hands down, porcelain is better and heavier. I also have porcelain in one bathroom and ceramic in another. Several of my ceramic tiles have cracked in my one bathroom and need to be replaced.

Porcelain comes in many different beautiful colors - from dramatic to conservative. "Lea Rainforest" is the line of tile that we went with. It comes in about 10 different color choices and has lots of great texture and tones and is offered in several different sizes. I think ours are 12" or 13" but you can get them in a smaller size or 19". (I think that's the size).

If you are really concerned about cold tile... there really is a lovely selection of linoleum tile out there that is very stylish and durable.

Good luck.

I would go with ceramic tiles and heat the floor. I don't like the fact that ceramic tiles are so cold on your feet. Also hardwood floor would be an option. That will last a long time and you can refinish it too. I wouldn't go with linoleum, it won't last as long.

If you need a hardwood floor company to get their advice you should call Vally and see his opinion. His website is http://www.ArielRemodeling.com
He comes out for free estimates.

I have the laminate flooring that looks like ceramic tiles in my kitchen, mud room and laundry room. It was the best choice for us since we did not want the cold of the ceramic nor the scratches our dogs and kids left on the linoleum tile flooring we put in only 2 years prior to having to change it AGAIN!

It is VERY durable!!! People are shocked when they find out it is not ceramic and also how affordable it was! It withstands our 2 dogs, heavy traffic from friends and family, easy to clean and looks very nice!

If you look up on the Lowes website you can find all different kinds for yourself that are not wood looking and should win everyone over! I know when my hubby first suggested it to me I thought it was only wood looking and was dead set against it... I even threw a hissy fit! lol He brought me to the store then to look at regular tile and then pointed it out.... I was like Ohhhhhh! and applogized for being a witch about it!

Good luck with whatever you choose!
Blessings to you and yours!
