We are having our first baby in October and are starting to look around for a pediatrician. We prefer someone who is open-minded to homeopatic/alternative ideologies backed with sound medical research. Also looking for someone who will be supportive in our desire to raise a vegetarian child (as we are both vegetarians).

We live in the Des Plaines / Park Ridge area and prefer someone not too far away. We also need to find someone who works within the Advocate Medical Group system as per our insurance. Specific name recs. would be great.

We live in Des Plaines and take our kids to Dr. Minkus in Skokie. It's only about a 20 minute drive and well worth it for the care and attention we receive. Dr. Minkus is wonderfully supportive of alternative approaches, natural birth, extended breastfeeding, delayed or no vaccinations, etc. I work as a doula and refer all my clients who are seeking pediatricians to his care. He really takes the time to talk with you and get to know you, encourage you and make you feel confident in the choices you are making for your family. I'm not sure all the insurance he works with, but you can contact his office.

Dr. Robert Minkus
Tel ###-###-#### (Skokie Location near Old Orchard Mall)

Hope this helps!

Hi-
We see Dr. Arkema at AMG in Glenview on Milwaukee Avenue. There are 4 pediatricians in the practice, and they used to be on Golf Road in Des Plaines. She has never been judgemental about any decisions we've made in regards to our children. Make an appointment to interview her, or one of her associates. We also like Dr. Bayer there, and Dr. Kwan. Dr. Cohn is fine, but our children don't seem to hit it off with him as much as the other 3. They also have an office in Buffalo Grove at 83 and Lake-Cook. We used to have an HMO, and picked them from our choices, but our insurances both changed, and AMG is out of network for our primary, but we are not changing. They have walk-in hours at the Glenview office M-F 8-9 am, and Saturday hours. They will also see patients on an urgent basis on Sundays and holidays at their BG office, and they have evening hours one day a week; last I checked, it was Tuesday, but it may have changed.
