Dr. Minkus let's his patients decide how and when to vaccinate, if at all. He has an office by Old Orchard in Skokie and another in Lincolnwood by Lincolnwood mall. He's part of the ENH system. Here's a link for more info. Good luck!
My cousin is expecting soon. For personal reasons I don't need to go into, she and her husband have decided not to go with immunizations.
Do you know of any pediatricians near Des Plaines/Niles that are okay with NOT giving vaccines to children?
They have called several pediatricians in the area, but so far they all are uncomfortable with providing medical care to their child because of their anti-vaccine beliefs.
Please, no comments or opinions about their beliefs. I know this is a hot topic but that's NOT what I'm asking here. We are just looking for a pediatrician that is okay with non-immunizing..
Thank you!
Thank you all, including those who wrote personal messages, for your responses. Sounds like Dr Minkus is a good choice. I forwarded all this info to my cousin and hopefully she will find Dr Minkus good! Thanks so much.

Hi
You can tell your cousin to check out Homefirst. They have an office in Rolling Meadows. They are family practice but treat all ages. They openly respect a parent's right to not vaccinate. They have a website. I think it is www.homefirst.com. They will be comfortable there. I hope this helps.
We also have decided to have selective- or non-vaccinations for our child. We searched and searched and settled with Dr. Minkus at ENH, and we love him. He is highly recommended. He really respects his patients' and parents' beliefs.
Good luck to your cousin!

Hi
We live in Des Plaines and use Dr. Minkus. We did interview with Homefirst but did not care for their office or their staff. Dr. Minkus is extremely supportive of homebirth, extended breastfeeding, altered vaccine schedules or non vax and alternative approaches to care. He truly takes the time to listen to parents' concerns and is warm and encouraging. I can't say enough good things about him!

I know that the homefirst peds group is fine w/ no vaccine. People have different views of them. I have no personal experience. Another great source is the mothering.com discussion forums. Go to the Illinois tribal area and do a search or pose your question there and someone will be sure to answer. There are a lot of non or delay vaxing parents on that site. Good luck.

My nanny is preg. and having a baby with a company called Homefirst. I'm pretty sure their Dr.s do not require vaccinations. I know there is one in the city and I believe there is one on Golf rd in Niles area
You may want to try homefirst. I go there and choose not to immunize. They also have free seminars about educating parents about "Vaccine Awareness and Choice"
There are locations in Rolling Meadows, Oak Forest, Chicago, and Naperville.
Here is their website: http://www.homefirst.com/locations.html
It's kind of far from them but Homefirst is supposed to be great for pediatricians. THere is one in the city on Lincoln Ave and one in Naperville. I think their website is homefirst.com.
They can also try naturopaths. I think that is the right word. THey are like pediatricians but with a natural, more homeopathic route.
Kudos to your cousin to sticking to her beliefs.
