Hi Moms.

My son last had a vision exam last year at the age of 3.5 years old. It was inconclusive because my son was not great at asnwering questions. He has matured some and I would like to find an optometrist that is really good with kids. My son is speech delayed and has some developmental delays and I would really like to rule out vision problems. Can anyone recommend a pediatric optometrist in the Los Angeles area? We are willing to drive.

Thanks.

So What Happened?

thanks moms! I will keep the childrens hospital of LA doctor in mind. I have to agree I have never been disappointed with any doctors out of any discipline at childrens hospital los angeles. My son does not have a medically diagnosed problem wtih his eyes, so they will not cover a visit with an opthamologist, This is why I was trying to find a optometrist that has experience with children who can check for abnormalities. And if there are any abnormalities, we can take him to an opthamologist. in fact, I will try dr. brochett as my first choice.

I'm not in your area, so I can't give you any specific info...just wanted to suggest asking your pediatrician for a referral.

We liked Dr. Ken Wright at Wright eye center on San vincente near cedars. They over dilated my baby's eyes but otherwise liked them.
Good luck.

Hello, my son is also delayed in speech and development. But has come a long way since seeing Dr.Borchertt. He diagnosed my son with Strabismis. After seeing five different doctors through children's hospital Orange County and UCLA, we finally were referred to a fantastic doctor out of children's hospital Los Angeles. He is amazing! Out of five different doctors he was the only one who could help my son. Since first seeing Dr.Borchertt he has come a long way. He has had to overcome two surgeries on his eyes, but has come so far because of them. Dr.Borchertt is the best. I don't know where my son would be without him honestly. He sees patients out of children's hospital Los Angeles. He teaches at USC and he has a private office in Arcadia. The best of luck to you and your son.

are both excellent optometrists specializing in behavioral optometry, vision therapy and pediatrics. They are both well respected in their professional and personal communities, and both teach and train optometry students for the Southern California College of Optometry.

My own children have seen Dr. Tong since they were both 9 months old, and both just love him! I have referred a number of my own friends and classmates of my kids to Dr. Tong, and they are all very happy with him. I can assure you that you and your son will be very comfortable with him. He has just the most soothing demeanor. His office is conveniently located off the 210 Freeway.

Dr "JT" Tassinari is extremely well known in his community and very active in his profession. He is very personable and has trained years of graduating classes of optometry students from the Southern California College of Optometry. His office is in central Pasadena.

In my experience, optometrists are better trained to detect developmental and behavioral vision related issues in young children, as well as in population as a whole, than surgery-trained ophthalmologists. Some ophthalmologists even delegate technicians, some may even hire optometrists, to assess the visual function and even the health of the eye vs. examining the patients personally.

Is the Pasadena area too far for you? Please let me know what area you are looking and I would be happy to refer you to an excellent pediatric optometrist in your area. You can also search for a pediatric optometrist at www.optometrists.org.

Good luck.
