Seeking Opinions on Hinsdale Hospital & West Suburban Womens Health...

I am in my 30th week of pregnancy, and due to some unfortunate circumstances, I am needing to switch my healthcare from the city to the suburbs. We are now thinking of delivering at Hinsdale Hospital and I am wondering if anyone has any experiences (good or bad) to share. I am actually closer to Good Samaritan Hospital, but I refuse to go there due to many previous situations and unsatisfactory experiences (in many different areas of the hospital). I would maybe consider Edwards Hospital as well, but would prefer Hinsdale if people have had good experience there. I so far am planning to switch to West Suburban Womens Health and would love to hear your opinoins on the doctors/midwives there as well!

Any advice is greatly appreciated. THANK YOU! Switching this late in the game is stressing me out a bit!!

What can I do next?

Can anyone who delivered there let us know whether they have private rooms or not (one poster said she didn't think they did)? Thanks!

I deliverd both of my kids at Hinsdale and loved it. My husband and I were both very happy with how pleasant and helpful the staff was in both the labor and delievery section as well as the postpartum section too. I didn't go to West Sub Womens Health, I went to a private practive in Oak Brook that I just love too, and my doctor was very well liked by the Hinsdale labor & delivery nurses (Dr Yu).
Good luck!

I had my 3rd child at Hinsdal Hoepital and LOVED it!!! They DO have private rooms which was one of my concerns and because I no alot of other hospitals have their patients share their rooms...The hospital was very clean, the doctors are wonderful and the nurses are just as sweet as can be! Another thing i loved was when my husband brought my other 2 kids to visit they brought a cart full of sweets for any guest that come to visit you, I was in shock! The food is good and they are extremely careful if you have any allergies to any type of foods. If we ever decide to have a 4th I for sure will be returning to Hinsdale Hospital. Also I do no that if you tell your doctor that you want to visit the hospital to look around they will let you...I mean I REALLY loved it at Hinsdale! I hope I was some help to your question! Congrat's on your pregnancy and Good Luck!

I never delivered at Hinsdale, but I have only heard 2 nightmare stories about that hospital. I would seriously consider other hospitals.

My Girlfriend delivered at Hinesdale. The only thing I do not think that they have private rooms. I delivered at LaGrange.

Highly recommend both. I had both of my children at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital and my doctors were West Suburban Women's.

I do not know the Dr's you have chosen, but I do have experience with Hinsdale hospital. I LOVE it. I have had 2 deliveries there and am having my 3rd this May. I have also dealt with them in other areas for my daughter. Each time, I have found every single person I come in contact with very nice and very helpful. The labor and delivery section is very secure and the babies are tagged with a "tracking" device that sounds an alarm if the baby is taken past a certain point. I loved the nurses there, they were so helpful before, during and after delivery. I think there was only one lady that was kind of abbrasive with me while I was learning to nurse my son. But I only saw her one time. I know this isn't the most important thing in the world..but it is a nice perk..In my packet I recieved after my 1st OB appt., Hinsdale is now offering free 15 min. massages post delivery, and additional time can be purchased. With this being my 3rd go round, I have to say, I am looking forward to this treat! LOL
Good luck with your decisions!!

I just delivered my 4th baby at Hinsdale after having had three at Prentice. Honestly it was fine, I had a horrible experience with the anesthesiologist and my epidural, but supposedly she is normally great. The nurses were really nice and I also really liked West Sub, especially the child care they offer! I really liked the midwives and all the doctors I met. Feel free to with any other specific questions.

Hi,

If there is any chance that you might have a complicated delivery, (1st child, yours has been termed a high risk pregnancy, etc) you will want to deliver at a hospital that has a level-1 neonatal intensive care unit. My wife had our son at good sam at 30 weeks and everything about the experience was wonderful, including 9 weeks in the nicu. The doctors and nurses were great, the room my wife was in was private and well attended. Considering the trauma of delivering early, I can't imagine that we would have had a better experience anywhere else. And they saved my sons life twice while in the nicu.

Just saying that if everything goes smooth you can have your baby just about anywhere. If something goes wrong, you need to be somewhere where they really know what to do.

I wish you the best.

Take care,

Keith
