Seeking Ob/gyn Referral at PNC St. Louis Park - Deliver at Methodist

I am looking for a new OB GYN this is my second pregnancy and am having problems with scheduling b/c of low availability of my old OB GYN. I see a NP when I am not pregnant, but am looking for one MD I can see the whole way through this time. So whom uses this hospital/clinic and then what MD would you recommend? Or would you refer me to switch to the midwife program at Methodist/meadowbrook and if so why?

Thanks!

N.

So What Happened?

I decided to go with the mid-wives at Methodist (Meadowbrook) and they so far have been wonderful. I see Kaisa Johnson the most but have been happy with all the others and am scheduled to several I haven't yet next month. Thanks for all the advice and referrals.

You probably know this, but only Park Nicollet OBs deliver at Methodist and then you get who's on-call as a delivery doctor. So, you'd have to be willing to deliver at another hospital if you'd like to find a dr or midwife you can see consistently and for delivery.

I can give you referrals if you can change Hospitals--try OB/Gyn West in Wayzata.

Let me know if you need more info.

Not to sound like a broken record... but I love the CNM at Meadowbrook too! I had Kaisa Johnson for my delivery and just love her! I would highly recommend them to anyone.
Congrats!

If Dr. Robert Miller is at SLP (I think he splits between there and Bloomington) - try him. He's WONDERFUL! I also delivered at Methodist last June- he makes a point never to miss a delivery of "his" babies. I was seeing him for years as my GYN - He's the only one I will ever go to now.

The midwives are fantastic at Meadowbrook, I wouldn't go any other way. I had exactly the birth experience I wanted and Kaisa Johnson supported me all the way, she is wonderful.

I used the midwifes there at Meadowbrook for my last baby and will be using them again for this next baby. I really like it, look into them to see. I had appointments with all of them so that I would get to know them all. But you can request one in particular. The thing with midwifes is that there will be one with you the during the whole labor. So it's more personal. They don't have 5 rooms that they are going inbetween. They still use pain meds so your not expected to do everything natural if you don't want to, but they will help you through the labor in a more natural way if that is what you want.

I had no complaints and the few people that I talked to before I made my choice had not complaints. Kaisa Johnson was the midwife that deliveried my baby, but all of them were really nice.

I would recommend Isabelle Anderson at the PNC in St. Louis Park--she's in the 3800 bldg. I used to see her, but recently had to change to another clinic b/c of a change in our insurance. However, our insurance is changing again, so I'm switching back to her. She always took the time I needed with her and always seemed very caring. I just booked an appt. w/her, and was able to book in within the month.

I would completely recommend any of the midwives at Meadowbrook. They are fabulous, all of them. Kaisa Johnson is the one I saw most frequently, and I loved her, but they'll all great, as is the office staff. Methodist is almost completely midwife staffed, (it's where I delivered) so if you're thinking to deliver there, I would just go ahead and go with the midwives. They'll get doctors involved if doctors are needed, but they can do pretty much anything you need, unless pretty big complications occur. I wound up having a c-section due to assorted complications, but my midwives stayed with me through the end. Kaisa even came with me to my c-section, and stayed with me through the whole thing (she knew I was scared of doctors) keeping me company while my husband went with our son after the birth. They are wonderful, wonderful women.

Hi N.,

I, also used the midwifes at Meadowbrook (right attached to Methodist Hospital) for about 1-1/2 of my 3 pregnancies. My daughter was breech during second pregnancy, but I went to the Midwives all through and consulted an OB/GYN near the end when it appeared I needed a C-section. I was able to contact this OB/GYN for the third because I opted for another C-section and a tubal -- she was in Bloomington, but also delivered out of Methodist. I honestly don't remember her name, but could look it up. She was very good and very supportive throughout both situations (I am partial to female doctors -especially for female issues)

Through your rotation you get to meet all of the mid-wifes and they all seem to have the same philosophy - to make the birth as natural as YOU, the expectant mother, desire. Plus with their affiliation with Methodist, they are already connected to the OB/GYNs if an emergency arised during delivery...

good luck

I saw Dr Jeanette Strathy (obgyn) and Lois Satterberg (CNM) at St Louis Park in the 3800 building. I rotated and saw each every other visit for all 3 of my children. They were both great! Dr Strathy is very personable and after a miscarriage would let me come in to just hear the heartbeat when I was concerned, which was very comforting.

Dr Strathy was on call with only one of my deliveries, so if it matters who delivers for you, I don't think it's guaranteed that she'll be there. That didn't really matter so much to me.

Good Luck!
