I just moved to KCMO from Ohio, i hate MO state laws on vaccinations. My choice to not vaccinate my daughter has me thinking we should not of left Ohio, because this state is not very friendly on Philisophical reasons...Anyways I would love to hear about Pediatricians in the KCMO area, mostly those who arent trying to inject my daughter with 8 vaccines in one day! I would love to find a holistic doctor in my area but someone who takes my thoughts into consideration is great too!

Thanks for your input....Please spare me your thoughts on getting my daughter vaccinated, i think if you do thats great thats what you want, but thats not what i want. I respect everyones opinions so please respect mine.

What can I do next?

Dr. Fatima Mirza is the most wonderful pediatrician and my recommendation!

We love her and I have been using her for almost 17 years now! My oldest will be 17 in July and my youngest will be 5 in August. My kids actually want to go. If one is going the other has to go to so they can see her! She talks to them and me - treating them as a person -- not just moving them around and doing what they need to do...as I've heard from other parents. I always recommend her and have had numerous friends switch to her because my kids even talk about how nice she is.

I had lots of reservations about immunizations because my brother was adversely affected by them in the early 70's and so I always talked with her and her nurse about them. They listen and understand - normally giving all the options/info to allow me to choose.

I think most doctors will be in favor of immunizing because of the possible risks to not - however - I truly beleive Dr. Mirza will respect your decisions.

Good luck to you with your search - I know it's not easy - I interviewed ped's (including Dr. Mirza) while I was pregnant with my 17 year old to make my decision because you are most definitely right - they are our children to care for!

Wishing you luck in your search. We're still looking for someone we're comfortable taking our almost 3 month old non-vaxed, uncircumcised boy to. You might consider using a family doctor rather than a ped. if you can't find one you like.

I live in Clay County and take my daughter to the Health Department for vaccines. She has a regular pediatrician (Plattsburg Family Health Care), but until recently, they didn't keep the vaccines at the office. The staff at the Health Department are very good-friendly and gentle. The most vaccines my daughter has ever been given is 3 at one visit and they offer oral doses when available.
Good luck to you.

I don't really have any advice to offer regarding docs. I have a good one on the Ks side - he does recommend vaxing- but does a very modified schedule and has no problem with delaying or skipping things.

But I am sure Olathe would be too much of a drive for you.

I just wanted to say I moved here from Ohio in 2000 and I felt the same way. Ohio was just more respectful of letting parents make vax decsions for their kids.

I love our pediatrician. His name is Dr. James McDonald and has never been puchy about any choices regarding my chldren's care. He has never attemped to make any decission for me. My middle has cerebral palsy and when she was two, there was much speculation as to mercury and autism and one of the shots being high in mercury. With everything she had gone through, I didn't want to giver her the shot and he was perfectly ok with that. We discussed the pros and cons and I came to the decission that she could hold off of it. When she was having seizuress, he recommended that she not get one of the shots. That is they way it should be. Your going to have more of an obsticle when you try to enroll her in school. We had to jusm through hoops to get her enrolled in preschool with out the shot that one of the side effects is a greater chance for seizures even with a seizure disorder. She almost had to miss her first day of school.

In Liberty, Dr's Hertenstein and the Lively's are amazing! I would highly recommend them. They're the best I've ever found. When we moved away a few years ago, I was upset to leave them. I haven't found a Dr since that I have liked. So, I'm glad to be back here. They diagnose everything very quickly. They are very proactive. They have extended office hours and 24 hour on call. They all take turns working shifts at Children's Mercy outside of the office as well. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about them at all! They are wonderful with my kids and make the kids feel comfortable before they even attempt to take their temperature or do anything at all. They listen to all of my questions and are always sensitive to my concerns. They explain everything to me in a way I understand it and I can call them anytime at all with questions or concerns. My kids all like them and sometimes will randomly ask when we can go back.

He's a GP, not a ped. My husband and I both go to him, and when our daughter was born (she's 6 mos) we started taking her to see him also. He's cool. She loves him. He gave her about a 10-15 minute exam the first time, whereas her ped saw her for a total of 10 mins.

He's cool with the vaccine thing.
