Can anyone recommend a Occupational Therapist in Tampa area. We are wanting to have our daughter assessed. Possibly a slight sensory intergration issue.

Both positive and negative comments about any experiences would be appreciated.

Hi K.,
I'm not too familiar with one in the Tampa area but I wanted to inform you of a pinellas county support group for Sensory kids. (my son is 7 and has Sensory Integration Disorder) you can check it our on yahoo... ____@____.com
At the very least if you can't come to the meetings, you can network with us online, there may be a few who are knowledgeable on the Tampa area. :) Good luck!

There is an outpatient therpay place from St. Joseph Children's hospital on Bloomingdale in Riverview area. My son goes there for therapy for mild sensory issues with foods. My other son was there for physical therapy and we are very happy there. There also is a good book to help called The out of Sync Child that helps you understand sensory issues with children.
Hope that helps

Ask your pediatrician. We had our son assessed through Hillsborough County for speech issues, they may also assess for sensory issues. This was free if you live in the County and the women who did our assessment were very knowledgeable and easy to work with. The first meeting they even came to my house to discuss the issues. I can't remember the name of the program but again, you pediatrician should know. Good Luck.

Hi K.-
My 7 year old daughter sees Sara Goodall at St. Joseph's Hospital. We have been doing therapy for over 2 years and have loved our therapists at St. Joe's (both of my sons do speech therapy there as well). They have also been wonderful in communicating with our pediatrician and helping us work out insurance issues.
The idea of therapy may be a little scary, but I am constantly amazed by the techniques that are used and the difference that it makes.

K.,
My son went to All Children's Therapy Center in Brandon for Sensory Integration. It was amazing how quickly he responded to the therapy as well as our work at home, as if little miracles were happening each week. I highly reccomend this group if it is not too far away for you.
My son is now 4 and nearly over his sensory issues. He loves playing in the mud, painting on his hands, and digging in the sand at the beach. We still have some battles with eating but I suppose that could be a normal too.
Good luck with all. I also suggest reading "The Out of Sync Child".
