I am a speech therapist, and I could recommend a good company to you - Ingram Therapy Services. They have several offices, including one in both North Tampa and Westchase areas, whichever would be closer. You won't find a pediatrician who is also a speech therapist, as they are 2 different professions, but you might look around for a doctor who is more open to referring you to other services, such as speech therapy. I don't know how old your son is, but if he is under 3, there is an organization called Early Steps that helps coordinate services for children who need speech therapy and other services, too. Just remember, the earlier you can get help for your son, the better it is for him. Good luck!

Hi,
After working with many Dr's & Speech therapists - I'd be surprised to find one that is both.

Hopefully you can find a pediatrician that can refer you to a good one. If not try Healthy start or any other early intervention... You don't mention his age. If your child is close to 3 contact your school system & they can initiate early intervention VPK w/ ESE & any needed wrap around services.

I dont think many pediatricians are also speech therapists.
I go with my daughter to a wonderful speech therapist in Oldsmar.
The place is called Lemon Tree and we see Maria.
I know its far but she is fantastic!
Good luck with everything.

I did not reply before in hopes that someone else could give you a good answer. I too have a son that has speech issues. He is 3 and is now in the fast start program that is funded by the state. The reason I went this route is only because his problem is not severe. My Step Mother is a speech therapist for the Ft. Lauderdale school system and told me that this type of therapy would work for him.

This is what I can tell you. I do not know of, nor have I heard of a pediatrician that is also a therapist. Personally, I would not want that combonation. You need someone whose focus is purely pediatric medicine and purely speech therapy.

I also have a son that is hearing impared - again, not severe as his is corrected with a hearing aid. He goes to All Childrens on Bruce B Downs to see an amazing audiologist (Dr. Spirakis - not sure of spelling)! Has your son had his hearing tested? If not, I suggest you do that and this Dr. is amazing!!! I have also heard wonderful things about their speech therapy department. You could do a consultation there to check them out, but I can assure you that they are on top of things as I have delt with that office for almost everything else they offer. The number is ###-###-####.

Good luck!

I don't really think you will find a pediatrician who is also a speech therapist. I am guessing the pediatrician would refer you to a speech therapist. I would call All Children's and ask for some suggestions from them. good luck.

I agree with the other response. You need a referral to a speech therapist. You could also call St. Joseph's Children's Hospital or ask your pediatrician for a referral. There may also be some county programs that could assist. I have a colleague whose 2 year old is working with a therapist - I will ask her today at work and get back to you.
