Hi Moms:) My daughter is having troubles with a dry nose. It is scabbing(scaly)and bleeding, and overall driving her crazy. I've had her try saline soltution (but I think she only tried it once). Not sure what else to have her try, she wants to put lotion or something in it.. maybe liquid vitamin E ?? Anyone have any ideas??

Thanks everyone for your wonderful advice. It was very helpful for both of us. It was fun for my daughter because she was with me when I posted it and loves to see the advice coming in for her :) Her nose is doing better and we are going to keep all of your advice for future reference because they were all wonderful suggestions! :)
Is it due to allergies or dry air? Keep a humidifier in her room (has to be cleaned often to not allow it to grow mold) however saline drops are a life saver for us with the dry air. My son has a really dry nose too. I have put small dabs of vaseline on the inside of his nose when it has been bad but a humdifier, warm shower before bedtime and saline should do the trick. If it is due to allergies, I would talk to your Pediatrician.
I had this problem growing up. Once there is a cut, it seems impossible to heal! I would try to use Vaseline before I got a cut, and Neosporin when i got them. I know my father-in-law uses Polysporin. Try tissues with lotion for blowing to minimize pain on the entry to the nose. Good luck!
When I was younger I had to put vaseline in my nose every night to keep from getting nose bleeds. Also use a humidifier.
My daughters have the same problem. It is caused by the dry air. The Dr. gave one of them gel to line the inside of the nose. It helps but I don't know the name of it.

I know a lot of people here said to use Vaseline, but it's a petroleum product. If you look it up, petroleum products are motor oil refined a certain number of times. UCK! Mineral Oil and petroleum products are also carcinogens so you don't want to use products like that. Our doctor recommended saline spray and she needs to use it consistantly for it to start working. My 15 yr old boy STILL gets nose bleeds when he doesn't use it regularly. Also check at Vitamin Cottage or Whole Foods for something nore natural. If you can't find something there, get back with me.
The gel that you can use inside the nostril is AYR. It's saline, but a gel. Don't do too much vaseline or oil product, it can cause other problems. like others have said, humidify the air, also try to get her to drink more water - not soda - because if you're dehydrated it makes the mucous membranes dry, too!
I'd try a humidifier and vaseline. We lived up in the mountains for a while, and while we were used to the dry air of the West, this place beat all. We constantly all had bloody noses without humidifiers. My mom had one in each room, going day and night. It was crazy! But the humidifiers did the trick. Vaseline really helps immediately and when it's just a little worse than usual.
