I am a new mom of a 3 month old son. Who I absolutely adore. I in a lack of sleep and find myself falling asleep on my way to work now. He used to sleep through the night. Now all of sudden he won't sleep much through the night. I am getting up with him about every 30 mins. Ever since he started rolling over and scooting it seems he is doing this in his sleep. I have tried the bedtime bath, the bedtime lotion, a wegde. At this point nothing his working. I am at wits end. He's not hungry and we change him regularly through the night. Just don't know what to do.

What can I do next?

Have you talked to your pediatrician? I had a hard time with my daughter, too (still am!). But he suggested that since she was only eating for short periods of time that it was just out of habit and for comfort, not hunger. So he suggested letting her cry, which I hate, but which gets easier with time. He said it's ok if she cries for 20-30 minutes she will not freak out that you're not coming. Just makes sure she's safe and she might even stop crying before 20-30 minutes are up. It's still a struggle, but works most of the time. Anyway I'd definitely suggest talking to your pediatrician to see if they suggest the same thing or anything else. It's easy to forget the simplest ideas sometimes when you're in the middle of it. Good luck!

the way that I was able to get my daugher to sleep for longer periods of time was to swaddle her very tightly. I found that if I did not wrap her up tight, she would get her arms loose and eventually wake herself up from moving. She is now almost 6 months old and she sleeps for about 9 hours before waking up. Hope this helps you. Best of luck!!

Try to remember, this too shall pass. For our second child, we purchased one of those playpens with the little bed that you can lay even with your big bed. When the baby woke to eat, all I had to do was roll over and nurse...which after a few months you find you can do in your sleep!

I never changed them in the middle of the night unless the diaper was really wet or the baby had a b.m. I agree it is too stimulating.

I also took gave up lunch breaks and took short naps in my car. It helped me to be A LOT more alert at work.

Even though my kids are 5 and 10 now, I still indulge in a nap or meditation during lunch. I discovered it helps me to clear my mind and focus for the afternoon!

Good luck!

Been there :) People have mixed feelings and differing opinions about bringing their children into their bed but I did with mine and we all slept better for it which made us all ultimatley happier. they are older now, all in their own beds, and I never experienced any negative side or after effects from letting them sleep with me when they were little. Babies just want mom and hey if it helps him and you sleep then it may be worth a try. As for battling the sleepiness, I excercise as much as I can to increase my energy level (I know vicous cycle), eat healthy, take vitamins and meditate in the evening. It seems to help with my energy level and quality of sleep.

He might be starting to teeth. My son got his first tooth at 4 months and is still not sleeping through the night and he is 9 1/2 months. And at one point he was sleeping through the night and then all of a sudden around 4 months started waking up. He is only now starting to sleep for longer periods of time in the night, but still wakes to be changed or to get a drink of water. Every baby is different. But feel in his mouth to see if you feel any teeth and if so, you might try teething pills. You can buy them in the baby section at HEB but ask you dr. first since he is 3months. But they have done us wonders.

He loves you and wants your time, and you respond to him at night, that is a reward for his efforts. Gradually start delaying your response for a few minutes more each time and each night. He will fall back to sleep on his own eventually. Make sure he has a "lovey" (small stuffed animal that is the color of your hair). Changing him all night is stimulating, try only changing for really wet or poop.
Good luck!
