Seeking Good Vet

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good and reasonably priced vet in the San Jose area? We have been taking our pets to the VCA animal hosptial for a while now and they do a good job there, but each appointment is so pricey and we always feel like they're trying to sell us additional things that we're not sure are necessary for our pets. Thanks!

Good Morning, B. ~
We have used Evergreen Veterinary Clinic located at 1611 E Capitol Expressway,San Jose, CA 95138. Their phone number is ###-###-####. They are awesome and they all love their job. No, they will not try to sell you the world, just the services you need. If you need to get any medication, etc. they will even let you know which website to look for better prices. Good luck to you!

I have worked with pets for many years and put in the request needing homes for feral cats. All the veterinarians are costly but I know what you mean about the VCA, corporate owned businesses. I don't know where you live but I will give you several referrals. The one I've used most is Evergreen Veterinary Clinic, check their website, ###-###-####.There are 2 I've used for spay and neuter and since they participate in this program and seem very caring, clean, knowledgeable and efficient, I will refer you to AKAL Animal Hospital on Berryessa Rd, ###-###-####. There's also Animal Medical Center on Hillsdale, ###-###-####. You can let them know that I referred you. P. Skinner I reread your request and you may need to check out a few veterinarians until you find one you can communicate with and let them know your needs and limits. I hope that helps.

We take our two Labs to Dr. Bibb at El Gato in Los Gatos and really like them. I have found that she advises against unnecessary procedures and won't over-vaccinate. Their exam fee is only $48 (and they discount the second dog), even on Saturdays, which I have found to be on the low side. Their website is www.elgatovet.com.

Another thing you may want to consider is pet insurance. Vet care is expensive in general and pet insurance can really help if your dog is prone to illness or accidents. We use VPI (Veterinary Pet Insurance) for both of our dogs. www.petinsurance.com.

Good Luck!
L.

I use Pet's Friend Animal Clinic in Sunnyvale.

The different vets that my pets have seen have all been very competent and nice. As for pricey-ness, I'm not sure how they rank compared to others but they've never tried to sell me stuff.
