It is a prolapse of the third eyelid & the tear gland shows up in the corner of the eye.The longer it is out, the larger it gets. Oscar has had both eyes show in the corner & then go back but now it has been over a mo. I am trying to massage... tips on google & yahoo but it's not working. I have had to have a lot of foot surgery (never be a foot model)! So Oscar & his fellow dogs haven't gotten many walks & Oscar especially, got heavy. This means his surgery is a little more than 60%. On the internet the operation ranges from $50.00 to $950.00 FOR THE EXACT SAME THING! They put a stitch in the eyelid to keep the gland in. Anyway, PLEASE, any really reasonable vet out there?
Oscar had an appt. a couple weeks ago... AT KINDNESS FAMILY Pet Clinic in Forest Grove (Or.). Lynn said they had done her dog's eye & even though it came out again... they would not charge more! The first visit, vet Carol (a heavenly angel if there ever was one) cost $68.00, this included exam, pictures, antibiotic eye med (in case it could help his eye to return to normal) 7&A NAIL TRIM WHICH EVEN WITH OSCAR BEING A REAL SWEETHEART WAS A BIG PROBLEM... HAD TO USE A MUSSEL! His surgery was a week ago last Tues. $199., that included a micro chip AND MORE EYE STUFF AS the other tube had gotten squeezed out... chasing him!
This is less than halg of what other places were charging without the extras! Anyway,I now have 4 dogs, 2 cats- have to give up rescuing for a while BUT I will not give up driving to Forest Grove & Dr Bean is the surgeon that made Oscar look healthy (he always looked good to me)! I don't think they should be held exactly to those prices but I wanted all to know how more than fair they were! Thanks Lynn & EVERYONE THAT MADE ME BELIEVE THERE ARE PEOPLE, BUSY YES, BUT CARING TO HAVE GIVEN SO MUCH INFO!

Value Pet is a chain of vet hospitals in this area, near Seattle that is much more reasonable than most of the competition. I also got tired of paying through the nose for routine care.

If you can make the trip to Astoria; there is a vet there that is usually about 10-20% of what a Portland area vet. I can get you the exact info if going to Astoria is a possability for you. Good luck!
Aloha Dog and Cat Hospital. Give them a call and see what they say. They are great, top notch veterinary care and veyr affordable compared to other vets we've been to over the years. We've been using them for almost ten years now for our two dogs and two cats. The staff and doctors are great and our dogs love going there. When we drive up they recognize where we are and get excited to get out of the car and into the office so they can see everyone there.

MY daughter works in the administrative offices of Banfield, The Pet Hospital. They are less expensive for routine care than the vet I previously took our dog to. My daughter does get a discount but the regular prices were less. The company does pride its self in doing community service. You could call and talk to them at the clinic closest to you.
My brother has taken his dogs to Companion Animal Clinic. He said that their prices are considerably less.
Dove Lewis in NW Portland receives a lot of publicity for their low prices. I don't know what the requirements are to obtain their services. I think that they are a non-profit business.
These are all in Portland.
My dog has just developed the same thing. The vet said she needed to have it fixed or it would be red and irritated all the time and cause a mucusy membrane so she can't see well. I don't know where you live now, but my vet is charging around $350 for the surgery plus a teeth clean while she is out. He is in Mount Vernon.
Our vet is wonderful and fixed our dog's cherry eye. It required 2 surgeries, because a small part of it poped back out a few months later. He said he wont charge us at all for the second. I can't tell you what vet to go to (my husband is a vet, but not in your area.) But I can warn you against going to Astoria (I'll spare you the horror stories.) My advice is to avoid the lowest cost ones because, well, you get what you pay for. Call and ask what services are included in the cost (antibiotics, pain meds, anesthesia) at different places and then pick one that sounds reasonable while including the necessary extras. Consider the comfort of your dog and how well the procedure will be done. That doesn't mean that you'll need to go to the most expensive one. Good luck!
Hi, I just moved to Clackamas, and I am a vet tech. I used to work for Companion Pet Clinic in South Salem, and I remember the surgery to be a few hundred dollars, I think like $450 for a golden retriever puppy we did. Here's the breakdown of the costs you should expect for the surgery.
Pre-anesthetic bloodwork $60-120 depending on age
Exam $26.50-$50 (depending on the clinic)
Actual cost of surgery $50-250 depending on time under anesthesia (usually rates are like $2 a minute or somthing like that
Pain medication for after surgery $20-30
Pain injection during surgery (highly recommended and some hospitals mandate it) $18-30
Pre-med and anesthesia first 30 min (this could really vary depending on hospital)
antibiotics possibly $10-50
Rabies vacc required if not up to date. Most clinics charge less than $10.
Also, I know if you know your dog's teeth need cleaning, if you throw that in there, you only pay for the extra cleaning, instead of waiting another time and having to pay for all of the extras all over again.
Northwest Veterinary Specialists were a great place, but I don't know how much has changed since VCA bought them out. I know That Fremont Veterinary and Moreland vet clinics are very reputable. Check them out! and good luck!
