I am fairly new to the area and am in need of a good OB/Gyn. One who really seems to care. Also, which hospital would you all recommend for giving birth. Is there is a women's hospital or center here? I would prefer a Labor/Deliver/Recovery room. Thank you for all your suggestions!

What can I do next?

I also go to Dr Allan Joseph and agree that he is wonderful. He's the best dr. I've ever been to, He delivered my second and third children and I wish I had known about him with my first. I also loved having my babies at St. Joseph Hospital (Trinity). It was a great experience both times.

Hands down the best doctor is Dr. Jean Paul McDonough. He is so thorough and really makes you feel taken care of. My first two children's births were less than perfect. I had the first one at MCG and the second in Myrtle Beach with different doctors. I wanted the third one to be right. His nurse, Teresa, would give you the clothes off her back. He also tries to be at every delivery. I wanted to have natural childbirth and he supported me in this. He suggested the Bradley method so I took 12 weeks of classes. He suggested inducing me at the end but when I told him that I wanted to labor at home and come in at the last possible minute he said OK and let me do it my way. In my experience, most doctors want their way or the highway. He's very progressive in his thinking and he's not old. He's in his 40's. I really love him as my doctor.

Rhonda, I use Dr. Erna Waxman. Her office is next to Doctors Hospital off Wheeler Rd and she has priveledges at most local hospitals. She was wonderful to me. Trinity Hospital and University Hospital both offer what you are looking for and I think Doctors Hospital may be looking to add that concept of 1 room. I gave birth at Trinity when it was St Joseph and was very very happy with my care. I had my hysterctomy :( at Doctors and was pleased there as well. Good luck picking your own place to bring your bundle of joy into the world!

Dr. Allan Joseph is a wonderful doctor. He has all four of my babies. He takes time with you and is very positive. He also tries to deliver all of his babies (and not someone else in the practice...like if it was after office hours, he'd give you a card to give to the nurses so they would call him). He's very laid back in delivery which helps to keep me calm (unless I'm going without drugs, in which case I want him to hurry up). His nurse, Dale, is awesome too. I just can't say enough good things about Dr. Joseph! He has privileges at University and Trinity. He's on the board of trustees at Trinity (or at least was), and his office is right next to Trinity Hospital. Also, all the doctors in his practice are very good and well qualified if he wasn't there when you had a delivery.

I used Trinity Hospital (and St. Joseph when it was that) and it was a great experience. It's still a hospital but you have more personal one on one care because it is smaller and there are less babies for the nurses to have to handle. University is also a good hospital and has LDR rooms too. I also believe that you can stay in your room for post delivery too. However, I didn't want to go there because it was so large.

Dr. Allan Joseph at Womens Health of Augusta is great! I would highly recommend him. He is extremely caring, but be prepared to wait when you visit him in the office.

Dr. Theresa Christie is an amazing OB/GYN. She has been my GYN for a long time now and she was my son's birth-mom's OB. She was chief of maternity at Trinity Hospital when my son was born and managed to get me a private room so I could be with my son, even though I didn't give birth to him. She's also a personal friend, so I know her to be a good Christian woman.

My own opinion...get a woman. I would never trust an OB/GYN who didn't have the same "equipment" as me. The very thought of a male OB/GYN is just weird to me.
