I disagree with the comment about regular suv's getting the same mileage on the freeway. Even the highway mileage on Hybrids is rated better then the standard suv. If you get in any kind of traffic jams (as most people do) then you will get far better gas mileage then a standard suv, which would suck up gas while running in idle.

I think it would depend on how many children you have or plan to have.
And, what you will be lugging around in your vehicle?

My friend, has the Mercedes M-class. But as a "family" vehicle... well, its not roomy enough.

Ultimately, since it is going to be a "family" car... then factor in if it will be roomy enough for the kids/you/whatever you will be loading into the vehicle.

All the best,
Susan

If you do a lot of highway driving an hybrid doesn't make sense - it will burn gas just like a regular SUV. A hybrid is great for local driving only. Once you hit the highway speed limits it will burn gas.

I would test drive several SUV's - our favorite has been the GMC Envoy XLS. It depends how many kids, and the different activities they are in.

Good Luck

Just heard the 2010 Highlanders have been recalled due to accelerator pedal problems....not sure if that includes the hybrids...

We have a 2007 Highlander and LOVE IT!! Top rated for safety and several other features in Consumer Reports.

I would check the internet for more info. on the recall..

You can also try the 2010 GMC Acadia. The reviews are great, its a very spacious SUV, has fantastic safety ratings and is very good on gas. Good luck.

I have been REALLY happy with my BMW X5-'06. bought last year as a CPO, have 3 yr maint. & warranty. LOVE IT!! fits in my garage. decent fuel ecomomy- 14-15 city, 21 hwy. (last vehicle F-250 diesel- '06- 11 city, 18 hwy- '03 F250 had better economy).

I bought it from Fields in Winter Park, but they have a dealership in Lakeland. They will come to my office in Tampa, with a loaner- drop it off & take my vechile in for service when needed.
