Seeking Best Bottles

I would love to hear what other mommies are using/have used as far as bottles. I plan to nurse and pump when my son is born, but I am not sure which bottles to get (I got rid of all my baby stuff - thinking I was done!). I used Dr Brown's with my girls, and I guess they were okay. They still got gassy and stuff, so I am not sure if it was worth the expense and washing all those parts! Love to hear everyone's thoughts/experiences.

I use the playtex bottles that have the drop-in liners!! They work great and you dont have to wash anything but the nipples!

Congrats on being pregnant with your son. I use the Playtex nursers with the bottle liners. I love them. I used them for both of my kids. They work well with switching back and forth from breast to bottle, since you are planning to breastfeed also. Best Wishes to you and your family!

The best bottles by far for nursing babies are Second Nature bottles. They simulate the breast. They have to be sucked on to get the milk out and they have several holes on the top like a real nipple. They carry them at babies r us.

I have to say that I LOVE the playtex natural latch bottles. I feel great about the liners, as it seems like the bottle is always sterile. I have also always had great luck switching from breast to bottle, as have any friends of mine that I recommended these bottles to. I have tried the Avent bottles, but for some reason, I still dont know why, they would leak out where I screwed on the lids. They seemed like they were on right, and it did not always happen, but when it did it was frustrating!! Good luck with your decision, and with getting through this summer pregnant. I am also due in August, so I am right there with you! ~A.~

We used the Dr. Brown bottles with our eldest, who ended up refusing anything else, so we were stuck cleaning all those parts for a very long time. Our youngest wouldn't take a bottle at all, the little brat. :)

A friend of mine used the Avent bottle and had nothing but good things to say about them. Judging from the responses thus far, Avent would be the way to go.

Congratulations and best of luck to you!

I used Avent bottles with both my girls. They both switched from breast to bottle with no problems! They are a little expensive but worth it to me. Good luck and congratulations!

I used Avent with my daughter and she had no problem switching from breast to bottle, and I liked the wide-mouth bottles because they were easy to clean. We still have a couple of the big 9oz bottles that we use to transport milk in for overnights with grandma, etc. (we use the cap insert in the nipple rings instead of a nipple). However. at the time, Avent was the only wide-mouth bottle on the market.
My son actually had problems latching on to the Avent, so we tried Playtex bottles with the disposable liners and he did great. A major plus with those was that I only needed about 4 bottles total so it took less cabinet space to store them all (as opposed to 8-10 Avent bottles -- half of them 5oz bottles and half of them 9oz).

You will love having a boy! I just had my "late in life" third child! I also thought I was done. My first two took the breast and a bottle (I was unable to pump enough) very quickly. I used the playtex nurser (it looked like a nipple) and they had no confusion. This third one had a lot of problems and tried the NUK bottle since he knew how to suck on a NUK. I had no problems, but they do leak a little if they are left on their sides.
GOOD LUCK! HAVE FUN WITH THE KIDS!

With my daughter someone gave me a Playtex (with the drop in liners) "gift pack" it had a varity of nipples and bottles they offer. I used all the nipples and one day there was only one she would take and nothing elese. They are realivity cheap and cut out gas so much because you can squeeze the air out of the bag, and no leakage. My Pedi recomeneded them highly. Maybe I was really lucky, but she had almost no gas, and the doctor said it was because we used the playtex bottles and a formula that worked well with her. Good Luck and Congrats on the up comming baby boy!

I used Avent bottles, and my son switched back and forth with no issues at all. I also used the Avent breast pump so I could pump directly into the bottles. Worked great, and I never had any leakage problems.

HI Stephani!

First, Congratulations!

I use the Avent bottles with my twin boys. One goes back and forth between the breast and bottle from when we first came home and has no problems. The other was in the NICU for about 12 days and when he got home we started him on the Avent bottles as well without any problems also. I have read that the Avent bottles/nipples fit into the babies mouth like your nipple making it easier for the switch. Good luck!

Stephani,

I have found a new bottle for breast and bottle babies that doesnt cause any nipple confusion issues for a mom that doesn't have time for difficult feeding issues. It is called the Adiri and the nipple is a large soft silcone that becomes softer with the warmth of the liquid. It is shaped like a breast and it seems to really work well. I also have the Pacifeeder for parents trying to feed 2 at one time and no air gets to baby at all. It is a patented one way valve system.

Come take a look @ The Nestingplace in Grapevine.

With my daughter I spent a fortune getting the Avent system and like another poster said, they leaked!!! NOt aLL the time, but when they did, it was like I was pouring milk all over my daughter!!! Right now I honestly cannot remember what bottles I switched to with my son...but I know for SURE it wasn't Avent...will update my post when I remember the name of them! I just wanted to voice mho that the avent system isn't worth what you pay for it!
EDITED 5/28***
I finally remembered the name of the bottles I used with my son. I used the playtex ventiflo bottles. They were an all in one bottle with a vent on the bottom that let the air OUT of the bottle without having to mess with liners etc. I really liked those, but honestly, I haven't seen them lately so I don't know if they are even out there anymore....
