When my children 1, 3 and 11 where infants, we would use my mom to watch the kids for a night out. Well they are a little older now and we would like to use a high school student for a night out. THing is I am not sure how much to pay her.

We will have to pick her up and drop her off. We will probably be gone from about 6 till midnight. Any suggestions?

So What Happened?

Sorry for delay in the update. We did use our high school student for child care. We ended up paying her 25.00 for 4 hours. We picked her up and took her home, as she can't drive. So about 6.25 per hour for two toddlers, and a preteen. She was happy, and is always there to help us when we need her.

We are in the same situation with 2 kids, and from what I have learned from many people who have babysitters in high school is the going rate tends to be between $6-10 an hour depending on how many kids you have. Sounds like you start at $6 and add $2 for each additional kid, and although this sounds like a lot, I was a babysitter my whole life and nanny while in college, and I was only making a dollar less back then (about 15 yrs ago) so I would say with 3 kids between $8-10, but I would also just ask that high school student what they think if fair, because sometimes they have different expectations, too, and then come to an agreement with that person. That is what we plan to do...
Good luck and have fun on your date nights,

I work for a service called Parents time-out, you can google it. It is a service that for an annual fee you have access to sitters that are experienced and background checked. I charge $9.00 a hour for 2 kids and $1.00 more for each additional kid as an example.

Benefits of the service is the sitters have their own transportation, are usually more experienced, you have access to multiple sitters, if you have an emergency the service will send out an "all call" email that will provide you with a number of individuals that are available.

To be honest, if I'm going to pay in the $8 to $10 dollar range I'd rather have an experienced individual that I do not have to transport...adding an hour or more to YOUR evening.

Just so you have the information....personally, if I was using a teen I'd pay in the $5 to $6.00 range....but you get what you pay for.

I would guess $2.00 per hour per child = $36 so I would pay $40.00 (if it were me) Wow what an expensive night out before you even leave. Good luck!!!
