My 2 1/2 month old daughter suffers from heat rashes. I keep her inside in an air conditioned apartment and this is the second time she has had a heat rash. It's in all the spots that dont get much air (neck, fold of her arm and elbow, behind the kness and etc.) She is not dressed warm, which doctors say is the main cause of heat rashes. What works best for heat rashes so they can go away quickly. I suffered from heat rashes as a teenage and I know they are very irritating and painful. Thanks so much for your advice!

Hi, last summer my son got what turned out to be heat rash, though we didn't know what it was at first. We tried everything we could find at wal-mart and the drug stores and had no luck. We even tried his prescription ointment. One day we were at Targetlooking through the ointment section and found one we hadn't seen yet: Burt's Bees Baby Bee Diaper Cream. After one application, the rash was cut in half, and after a couple days of using it, it was completely gone. Since then, that's all we've used on our son, and all we plan on using on our daughter(due in a week). One tube is a bit more expensive than other brands, but it lasts so long and works so well that we've found it's well worth it!

You might try cornstarch on a soft powder puff. Just dab this one lightly and see if it works. I tried it for my 18 month old grandaughter and it worked for me. She even tries to grab it herself and put it on.

I use my diaper ointment (Dr. Smith's) for rashes anywhere. I still sometimes use it on my 8 year old. I love this ointment. A friend's brother is a pediatrician and recommended it. Nothing else seems to work as well. I have been told that it has antifungal properties and when any of my three girls gets an itch between the legs either I apply it or they do with a Q-tip.

You might look into these things:

1)Change diaper brands. Many contain some toxic stuff that's not skin-friendly.

2)Change wetwipes to a chemical-free brand. They are hard to find, but you can find them--or use a washrag with water and a natural oil--like coconut or olive.

3) If you're not dealing with diapers, you might look into candida. Google it and see symptoms. She could have others, and it will explain how to treat at home. No big deal at all.

4) Could be food or other environmental allergies.

Hope this helps!
Blessings,
H.

Hi N.,
This might be something that you already know...
But I saw your message, and being in Arbonne,
I LOVE to help people with their
skin challenges, so I thought I'd reply.
Make sure and DO NOT use Mineral Oil products (look
at the ingredients list) or Petroleum products
on her, especially in the summer.
It will create an invisible film and covering on
the skin, inside the pores of the skin, not allowing
the skin to breath in oxygen or gas out toxins, etc.
That is why, as you may know, they tell you to never
put lotion with mineral oil or petroleum ingredients on
sunburned skin, because it will trap in the heat.
When my 5 year old gets heat rash on his rear end this
summer, I have been applying the Arbonne Seasource
Detox Spa Remineralizing 24 hour Body Lotion, after his
bath.... seems to be gone by the next morning....
Just some thoughts.
Good luck!!!

Are you sure it is heat rash-tiny babies get lots of skin rashes that come and go and you can't really do anything about them except keep them clean. But I think the most soothing thing for heat rash is plain old corn starch. I used it when I was pregnant in the middle of the summer. You can also find baby powder made with corn starch instead of talc-which is irritating to many babies skin.

Diaper rash ointment, try to find a kind that is petroleum based and that has zinc oxide in it. I have also used an antibiotic ointment that has pain reliever in it before applying the other to help ease the discomfort. Another thing you can use if it has perisisted for a while is Walmart's store brand of Lotrimin. I've typically used it on my kids in the summer when they've had diaper rashes. Hope some of these ideas help!

Hi N.
My 2 year old suffers from heat rashes and eczema so I do understand your concern. However, about a year ago I came across a company that produces products free of harsh chemicals. Along with that they also have very outstanding products that are for skin irritations. I began using them and you will never guess that my daughter who once broke out each time she walked out the door is now able to play outdoors and enjoy summertime!!! Please let me know if you would like more info on these products I would be glad to share with you!!
Thanks

Are you positive its heat rash and not an allergy of some sort? What if she were allergic to the fabric softener or laundry detergent you use? Do you take her clothes off of her when you are cooling her down (thus removing a potential irritant)?

Make sure it is heat rash first. Then remember that she will most likely grow out of it. The only way to deal with heat rash is to keep her dry so it doesn't turn into a fungus and continue to keep her cool.

My "baby" is 18 now, and we still keep Boudreaux's Butt Paste in our medicine cabinet. It works great on heat rash. I think the main ingredient in it is zinc oxide (the same stuff lifeguards put on their noses to protect them from sunburn), but it also has aloe and some skin conditioners in it to promote healing. My daughter used to take it with her to camp to treat heat rash.

My five year old gets heat rash fairly often. He is so hot natured. We use Gold Bond powder, and that works really well. I have also put deodorant on it and that seems to help also.

You need to use Boudreaux Butt Paste. It will definitely help. Another thing that helps is that you buy that is next to the baby powder is pure cornstarch powder. She will better soon!
