This is the second time i've had the iud. I love it. I know some have female troubles but it never been a problem at all for me. I say give it a try. Tubes tied is just to permanent for me. Good luck!
Hi Ladies,
I just had my fourth baby a couple of weeks ago. When I go in to have my 4 week check up I'm thinking about getting a copper IUD for birth control. It lasts for 10 years but you can take it out at any time. I would love any feedback about this good or bad. Thank You.

I had the copper one for about 5 years without any trouble. Then I started to have a lot of pain because it was dislodged. I had it removed and got pregnant immediately while trying to figure out what to use for birth control. Now we are thrilled to have two wonderful boys and I happily have my tubes tied. :-)
Hi M., I had mine for 8 years and absolutely loved it!! I had no problems with it besides the heavy bleeding during the first 2-3 cycles. After that I never even knew it was there!
I got the copper iud about two months ago, and I'm very happy with it. I didn't want the mirena because I didn't want to be exposed to the hormones. It honestly didn't hurt to have inserted, the dr. said it was because I've had three vaginal births. The dr. did an ultrasound to verify it was in place.
My hubby doesn't feel anything. If he did, it would mean the string is too long and needs to be cut.
Steph S., I'm concerned about your reply: "This IUD works by triggering a slight inflammatory response in the uterus, and seems like it would carry an increased risk of auto immune disease - lupus, MS, Scleroderma." I don't think your concern is valid, as if you look at this url and see how the iud is so popular in other counties: http://www.infoforhealth.org/pr/b7/chap1.shtml
Then look at this url and do the math and you will see statistically that there are no increased risks for autoimmune diseases in counties where the iud is more popular then others: http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/a/ai/stats-country.htm
First congrats on the new addition to your family. I had the copper IUD about four years ago and I didn't really have anything bad about it. But the only thing I didn't like is I had to check once a month to make sure it was still there I am sure you will have to do that with the other ones as well. Now on the other hand My husband did complain about it. As most men are very touchy in the private area everytime we were together he could feel the clear plastic strigs that hung off the IUD. The strings are what you feel for when you check to see if it still there. They are like fishing line attached to the IDU. So I went and had it removed, we were wanting to try to have a baby anyhow. But I won't get another one, I don't want my husband to think he will get poked everytime we are together. It became stressful for the fact it would hit him during that time. Hope it helps.

Make sure that you educate yourself on the copper IUD as a form of birthcontrol and determine what your values are. This type of IUD does not prevent ovulation, but it creates an uninhabitable environment for a fertilized egg.

I had Mirena, and I wouldn't recommend that joker either.
Good luck,

I've had the mirena and the copper IUD and I have absolutely loved both of them. No probs except heavy bleeding the first few cycles. It's been worry free for me and like you said you don't have to mess with it for years to come. My doctor recommends changing it out in 5 to 8 years though and not 10. And as for it getting it checked from time to time to see if it hasn't been dislodge your doctor can do that at your yearly or bi-yearly paps.
I had 2 CU7's 20+ years ago, and loved them. No problems at all, except heavier menstral flow. I thought they were easier on my body than other bc methods.
