I am looking for a good, trustworthy, highly recommended OB/GYN doctor who takes blue cross blue shield ppo. I live off exit 398. I need a place that is close and reasonablly easy to find. I will admit I have anxiety abut seeing a doctor but need too. Cancer runs in my family. My sister had it, my aunt has it, my grandmother had it, and everyone keeps harping on me to have a check up with my current medical problems. I need someone who listens to their patients and takes their concerns seriously.

What can I do next?

Hi R.,

I work at UT Hospital and I would definitely recommend Dr. Kim Fortner for your needs. She is awesome. I used to see Dr. Kidd with Women's Care Group here at UT, but she moved, so now I am going to go to Dr. Fortner. Her phone # is ###-###-####. I hope this helps.

I would highly recommend Dr. G. Walton Smith at Fort Sanders OBGYN. I moved here to TN in 1997 and I have been seeing him since. I love him, he is very caring, patient and understanding. You could not pay me to change doctors. His office is downtown Knoxville by Fort Sanders Regional.

I have been seeing Dr. Robert Elder at UT for the past few years. Mom saw him for several years before that. He is wonderful. I have not had any medical problems, just two pregnancies, but he is very caring. His nurses are great and you tend to feel like family after going there. I overheard one of the nurses on the phone with Dr. Elder yesterday reading a lab report for someone with cancer. She was discussing the sizes of the tumor and where it had spread. You could hear the concern and caring in her voice as she relayed the information. When she hung up the phone she told the other nurse that Dr. Elder would be in later (his day off) to call the patient and answer any questions she had. You could just tell that the entire office was devastated. They really are wonderful and I am fairly certain that they take BCBS, but you could call to make sure. If you have any more questions just ask.

I would also like to suggest Fort Sanders Perinatal. I LOVE Dr. Roussis and Dr. Stephens there. Dr. Bruner is also there, but he was new when my daughter was born, so I didn't see him too much. Both Dr. Roussis and Dr. Stephens were very good to me. I never felt rushed and they were very thorough.
