I had such overwhelming help with my last question that I would like to see if anyone could help me with this...My daughter is 4 months and I would like to get her picture profesionally taken (I know, I'm a little late) so where is the best place to do that? also, I would like to get pics of her and I...I remember way back when I was a babysitter and the family I sat for had a beautiful portrait of the mother and baby so I'm looking for someone to recommend a place that they have tried and had a good experience with...Thanks!!

Every once in a while Meijers has a photographer come in. Aside from that, I would look for a smaller business, not Olan Mills, for instance. Go to one of these smaller businesses and you'll get good results and not the high price tag.
Just let your fingers do the walking.

Check out www.bethmerritt.com We have not hired her yet but will be once baby 2 arrives. Lots of friends have hired her and the pictures are amazing! Also, try www.montephotography.com who we have hired twice and was also great. She charges a higher sitting fee but then you get a CD full of pictures to do whatever you want with. Both of them come to you, or meet you at a park or wherever you want. 4 months is a great age to do it because they cannot get away from you and they are smiley. Good luck!
They have locations all over the place. I go to the one in Westland mall. If you go now you also have the option of taking a picture with a live bunny if you like. Also you may want to know that you get your pictures back the next day at no extra charge. your 11x13 (well only if you want that size) is on Canvas at no extra charge. We love them.
Here is the link to a wonderful photographer:

I know her personally and also have had pictures done by her. In fact, we have my son's two year pictures already scheduled in May. She's incredibly talented and reasonable. Check it out.

My husband is a professional photographer and graphic designer. He has captured beautiful memories of our daughter (even in the womb for my shower invitations - which he also designed.) The best part is that he will come to your home or place of interest for beautiful, photo-journalistic/candid photographs (black & white or color.) Many clients appreciate having this "on-location" option for ease and comfort level of the parent/child, and for originality. His rates are very affordable.

Best of luck!

I have a 1 and 1/2 year old and am having a baby next month and I have looked into this a lot. I have had some great photos done of my daughter at Kiddie Kandids (http://kiddiekandids.com/). There is not one in Ann Arbor, but 30 min away I think (I just moved here). The pluses are 1) they know all the cute poses and 2) they specialize in babies and kids and their photographers are consistently good 3) you get your pictures the same day 4) I usually spend about $150 for a very big package of beautiful prints including a CD of all the pictures (important for digital scrapbooking!) 5) there is no sitting fee, if the pictures are horrible you pay nothing or you can just buy a sheet or two. The negatives are 1) sometimes you end up waiting, even if you have an appointment, because they are being patient with the baby in line before you, which can be frustrating with delicate eating and napping schedules and 2) you may feel like your photos are like the rest of the kiddie kandids photos.
You may get a similar experience at a target or sears or whatnot but are taking a risk.
I was looking into finding a professional for some pregnancy shots and newborn shots, and have also wanted to do some of my daughter in a garden setting. I have been shocked at the rates they charge! I am okay with a $100 or so sitting fee and expected $100-$200 hourly rate for professional services. However, the killer is how much they charge for prints! $25-100 for EACH seemed common. And if you want a digital disk, that's like $500! I can't figure out why they charge so much for prints when they probably have a lab do it. :( Plus, there is nothing to guarantee you will like the pictures that are produced by the sitting fee and hourly rate (even if the photographer is good, your child may be awnry or something) and you still have to pay it.
If anyone knows of a kiddie-kandids-like place closer to ann arbor, please let me know!

Hi K.,
I am a children's portrait photographer and Mamasource member. You are not late at all getting her pictures taken. I have many clients wait until 6 months or even a year to do a session. I love working with babies and pride myself on capturing the little ones personality. Please take a look at my website www.wendiedelanophotography.com to view my work and see if it's what you have in mind. I work both out of my home or on location. I can even come to your home if it's most convenient for you. Please email me through my site if you have any questions at all about what to expect. Oh- I also offer a discount to Mamasource members. Check out the mom-owned business section on this site for details.
Thanks & good luck!
