P.K.
Head a few minutes North to Escondido to Hacienda de Vega. It's on the South side and right off the freeway. Incredible food and atmosphere!
I think the subject says it all!
Things I'm looking for in the restaurant:
1)excellent chips and salsa
2)carne asada to die for!!!
3)oh so yummy margaritas
Help an addict get her fix!

There's a place called Jose O'Reilly's in Rancho Penasqitous. It's an Irish Mexican Cantina and the food is pretty good. If you want a good margarita, get the handmade one, otherwide it comes out of a machine. It's on Black Mountain Road in the Vons/Rite Aid shopping center. Good Luck --MS
We love the chips and salsa at Chevy's in Carmel Mtn. Ranch - not sure about the margaritas, haven't had them there. Lienzo Charro in Poway has great Albandigas soup and good food.
I think that the best for all of the above is Mi Guadalajara in Escondido. Their Happy Hour is great! And it is a place for the entire family:) Good Luck Let me know if you need directions I live in the same area!
El Comal on Poway Road!! excellent maragaritas!!
Hernandez Hideaway. Western shore of Lake Hodges. Take Via Rancho Exit west, left at Del Dios Hwy, left at Rancho Rd. SIMPLY THE BEST! If you'd like some company, I'm always looking for an excuse to hit that place.
El Comal Mexican Restaurant on Poway Rd.
Hello, I'm not too familiar with the bigger restaurant chains for food, but there is a great mom n pop place in Bernardo Heights area of San Diego called Pilar's Mexican Food. I've had carne asada at many places, but I think theirs is the best hands down!! Nice, friendly staff too!!!!
Here's their info: ###-###-####

You won't find it in Poway/Rancho Bernardo, unfortunately. I lived in that area for 12 yrs. and missed out on all of the above that you mentioned. If you don't mind the drive to Escondido, try Cocina Del Charro 525 N. Quince St.-GREAT Carne Asada! Or if you don't mind a trip to Old Town, I'd suggest Old Town Mexican Cafe or Coyote Cafe (both are great places to take the kids as well!)Good luck-hope this helps!
Dear K.,
I used to live in Rancho Bernardo for a decade, and though I'm in another community now, it remains one of my favorite parts of San Diego. I can't speak for any new restaurants that have opened in the last 3 years, but the El Torito in the plaza at the Bernardo Center Drive I-15 exit was always a good bet (chips always warm, several different salsas, and Cadillac margarita with higher-quality ingredients). You might also try the On the Border just east of the Westfield mall in Escondido (Via Rancho Parkway exit just north of R.B.).
Happy Hunting!
