Hi!
I have a 4 year old son and we have been trying to conceive another child for over a year and half. I was able to get pregnant with my son very easily. I did see my regular ob for this and did the testing and the clomid and what not. No luck, just a very stressful time and many, many appointments and tests, with no definitive reason as to why I cannot get pregnant. I made an appointment to see a specialist yet ended up canceling as I am not sure that is the route that I want to take. The stress attached to that may be too great and I had some bad experiences with the clomid..luckily though my insurance covers all. I am also so happy and grateful to have my son and I am now at a place where I am content with having one child and will make sure that he grows up well adjusted and around his many cousins often. However, I am wondering if anyone has tried anything other than going to the fertility specialist to get pregnant? For example, acupuncture or certain types of stress reduction.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Try Yoga, I swear that helped me get pregnant at age 43, I have a 4 year old, am so very fortunate.
I believe my ability to learn to relax, breath, "let my body breath and open up if you will" did the trick. Take it seriously, enjoy it, whatever you learn in class try practicing at home, get a yoga DVD and practice at home, there are many good ones at TARGET, and Target also has all the Yoga supplies you need, a mat, 2 foam blocks and a stretching strap is all you need. Even if you don't get pregnant, you'll feel better.
Best Wishes,
N.

Hi Robin -

It took my husband and I a year and a half to conceive our first child (I am currently 27 weeks pregnant). After a year of trying we went to a fertility specialist and everything checked out ok with me, but we found some issues on my husband's end. It was recommended that we try clomid as well, but we preferred to try the natural route first. Both my husband and I changed our diets and began acupuncture. One month later I became pregnant! I attribute this mainly to the acupuncture. When we decide to try for baby #2 we will start up the acupuncture again right from the start!

Hi Robin,

When my husband and I had our first child we got pregnant right away. Our daughter was two when we started trying for a second child.
After 4 months of trying with no success, I decided to see a fertility specialist and found out that my FSH was extremely high. Other than that we had no other problems to should keep us from having a baby.
I did assisted fertility treatments for 6 months (Gonal F and IUI). I also did acupuncture which I really believe was helping my body because the doctors were shocked by the improvements in my hormone levels and by how well I was responding to treatments each cycle. In spite of that however, I still did not get pregnant.
I decided to stop the fertility treatments and just do herbs and acupuncture (My acupuncturist was also an herbalist). I also tried to improve my diet as much as possible and include the highest nutrition foods that I could. I had a whole food diet with no highly processed foods. I had been doing a lot of research on supplements and what might be best for me and started using Maca, Evening Primrose oil, bee pollen, CoQ10 and Spirulina along with a good prenatal vitamin with Omega 3. I did a lot of meditation and soul searching to try to understand how my emotions might be effecting my fertility.
This January I was really starting to feel like my hormones were balancing out and that I was getting to a good place emotionally. In February, I got pregnant! I just gave birth to a beautiful baby girl this past Friday!

When I look back on the things that I did to try to conceive, it is hard to say what it was that worked. Maybe it was just a matter of waiting for the timing to be right, but my guess is that the herbs and acupuncture did help my body get back into balance and the meditation did help my mind get back into balance.(The mind/body connection is very powerful.) If someone could not afford the acupuncture treatments or did not want to go that route then I think meditation and diet improvements could achieve the same thing (maybe with just a few key supplements added).
I found that Gratitude, Love, Faith and Surrender are the most powerful forces in the Universe. Be Grateful for all the blessings in your life, Love yourself and your body, have Faith that everything will work out for the best and then let go of the outcome of trying to get pregnant and Surrender it to whatever Higher Power you believe in. Those things alone can work miracles!

I was told that with my high FSH that I only had a 1% chance of conceiving each month. The fertility specialists said that I would probably only get pregnant with doner eggs and IVF. I got pregnant naturally with my own eggs. So believe that IT IS POSSIBLE for you to get pregnant (especially since you've done it before). BTW, my first born is now 4 years old too.
Please feel free to contact me if I can share any other information.
Oh, also..I found Jennifer Bloome's newsletter amazingly helpful and inspirational. You can sign up at http://www.anjionline.com/index.php

I wish you the very best of luck on whatever you decide,

Dear Robin,

I had my wonderful son very easy and since then had one miscarriage, three unsuccessful IVF treatments and about 3 years of constantly thinking about the topic. I am done now. I have started to give his baby stuff away and we have a family dog now, which completes our family in a wonderful way. I have tried everything possible and I am not continuing this battle into my forties, as our chances get worse with every day we age.

I am sure you might get to that point too, as you are already starting to wonder what to do. Give yourself some time to think about it, explore other options, talk to your husband about it and then decide what you think is best for you and your family. The worst, in my eyes, are all these people who keep telling you these stories of "oh, once you are going to take your mind off it, it is going to happen". I always reply that if you look at the statistics, that is just not true and a certain percentage of moms have the problem of secondary infertility and I am one of them.

Hi Robin,

I did meditaion cds like this one to help destress.

http://www.immrama.org/insight/insightcd.html

I also went to a Natruopath and did vitamins and suppliments.

I would also suggest going to a fertility specialist to get both you and your husband. They may be able to figure out what the problem is even if you don't want to do the whole IVF route.

God Bless,
G.

I just got pregnant on my own after trying a year or so I also have one son who will be three in December. What I realized this month different from others is that you might be ovulating early on during your period so you have to begin having intercourse immediately when you finish your period or possibly during dry periods of your period. You also have to monitor your mucus which will tell you when your ovulating and when you think your ovulating you have to have intercourse three days in a row straight. I have been charting all along and that's the only thing I did differently this cycle. Also I tried to separate myself a little from stessful people in my life like my mother and father n law. Try these two things and it just might work you only need one cycle where you actually ovulate and hit that target and you'll get pregnant like my gynecologist told me there's no reason why I can't get pregnant I did before and you can too!
Good luck
From H.

Robin,
I was in your shoes myself. Got preggy with my daughter (big A) fairly easy, about 6 months after stopping with the pill. wanted another little one about 2.5 years after. 5 years later I was still not pregnant, had tests done on both me and hubby, everything was fine. Then (after another move - hubby is active duty army) I saw a german OBGYN for infertility and he suggested that my hormones were out of wack due to my weight (5'4" and 256 at the time) I had bariatric surgery in Aug 07,lost 100 pounds until may 08, gt pregnant july 08 and delivered a healthy little girl (little a) in April 09.
Now I am not suggesting that you are overweight, I don't know you, but the hormonal thing might be the problem, or just th exess stress.
You might get pregnant as soon as you don't try to get pregnant anymore.
I think I got pregnant about 34 month after I gave away just about all the baby stuff I kept from my first one (they are nearly 7 years apart! and I dragged all the stuff around for 7 years and 4 moves!)

Hope you will get pregnant soon, just try not thinking about it! Good luck!

M.

HI,

I'm really sorry you are having trouble getting pregnant. I was able to get pregnant the first time after 1 month and the second child not so lucky. What finally worked for us is using ovulation kit and having intercourse the first day it stated I was ovulating in the am and pm. Every other month we did what the doctor had suggested if in the am it states i'm ovulating have intercourse that night with no success. If you have the energy to have intercourse the next day i would also do that. I hope this is useful.

A friend's wife in California saw some accupunturist who has a high success rate of his patients' conceiving. Everyone who knew this woman was amazed that she was able to get pregnant. She was in her late 30s, extremely underweight with a very inconsistent period. Based on her experience I think accupuncture is worth a try.

You should go to see the specialist. Sometimes it's all about timing. The specialist can monitor your ovulation and even try IUI without using drugs. I'd say go and have a talk - it can't hurt. Best of luck!!

Hello Robin,

I went for acupuncture and I definitely think it helped me get pregnant. The acupuncturist did a combo of treatments and prescribed herbs. I would highly recommend it!

Robin, it doesn't hurt to see the fertility specialist to have a consultation. Once you hear about your options, you will probably have a better idea as to whether that is the route you would like to proceed upon.
Good luck and I hope that your baby dreams will come true!
