I think at about 2 years you can give shellfish. I am so sorry about your loss. My cousin had twin to twin transfusion syndrome and she lost one of her boys like that. She said it was so hard to do and she is still haveing a hard time 4 years later. Stay strong and keep your faith.

Ashley,
I am not sure about seafood. I think it is 2 yrs. They do it that way so she won't develop an allergy to it. I have given my daughter, born just a month before yours, a bite of shrimp. I know I am not supposed to do it but I did. She is ok,,, didn't hurt her.
I am so sorry about loosing one of the twins. I can't imagine how you feel becuase I have never lost one, however I can't imagine carrying a baby and it dying. Bless your heart. And I understand about the protectiveness you have developed now. I am sure that I would do the same thing.
I have a proposal for you. If you want to stay home, I have found a wonderful home based business that anyone can do and you can do it solely from your computer. No parties, no lotions, no potions, no begging family members. This pertains to books. Books sell themselves. They give you 3 websites: 1 to sell from, and 2 for promotion. You just have to advertise it and the way that you do that is put an add on all the free advertising places that you can find on the internet, then join all the clubs and talk back and forth to people. It does cost $35/month and you get lots of stuff, including a hardback book which you could collect children's books for your baby. But this is the good part, if you sign up one person a month, you make that $35 a month back. You can sell it as a book club to business people, or as a class or course taught to wanna be authors and publishers, as a writing contest that they have once a year, or as a home based business.
Do you know how people sell that home make up stuff and you think that they are not going to make any money doing that and the only ones making money are the ones that were the first to do it, well this business is brand new, founded by 2 best selling authors. They did a prelaunch of it in Oct 2006 to see if it would go over well and to their surprise it ended up to be big. So they actually opened it up to the public in Jan 2007. So this is brand new and you can be one of the first to work it and get it going.
You have to work it a little but in a couple of years, you should be making a really good living off it because you will have probably 500 people under you. I really think this is the best deal that I have ever seen and it was proven when they prelaunched it. All the business men in NY jumped all over it and bought stock in it and the authors/owners say that they are going to be bigger than amazon in the next couple of years. So I really think that whoever gets in on the ground floor will make a killing off of it. It won't make you rich at first but I think that it is going to be like an old timey hand pump: you have to work it at first but after the water starts flowing then you only work it a little bit. Think about it. That way, you would never have to leave your baby and you can still make a good income and give her all the things that you only dreamed about when you were little.
If you want to know more, just let me know: ____@____.com and I will send you to the site to look at it.
M.

I would check with your pediatrician before giving any foods which can be life threatening. Our oldest son has life threatening allergies; found out the hard way. He took a bite of my peanut butter sandwich when he was 19 months old and came very close to losing him that day. The bite he took was extremely small and it almost killed him! Since then we have had another child, he is now 23 months. The allergist we see told us, no eggs until after 2 yrs, no nut products or fish products whatsoever until after the age of 5. You must be extremely careful when introducing new foods; especially if allergies run in the family. We don't have food allergies in our family, only seasonal, outdoor - so this was a HUGE shock to us.

My doctor told me not to give my son seafood until after the age of 3. We are seafood eaters, so I made a point to ask him. He also encouraged me to keep fish with high levels of mercury out of his diet until much later. You can find lists on line. Hope that helps...however, I would certainly recommend asking your physician. My son was a preemie, so I am super careful, just as it sounds you are.

I am truly sorry for your loss. I can't imagine. My thoughts are with you.
