Sciotic Nerve Pain in First Trimester???

I had BAD sciotic nerve problems late in my last pregnancy, but with this one, I'm only 6 weeks along and yesterday had bad nerve pain in the back of my right leg, on my right hip, and my right side. Its alot better this morning, but it still hurts a little. I know that most sciotic nerve pain comes from you uterus pushing the nerve, but hello, that obviously isn't happening yet. I plan on asking the doc next week (unless it gets really bad and I'll call sooner), but I was just wondering if anyone else had this happen so early in your pregnancy.

What can I do next?

Get to a chiropractor immediately. You'll be amazed how simple it is to remedy this problem. I use a principled upper cervical specialist and they are very attune to the body of a pregnant woman and the strengthening of the little one. If you don't know one, go to ucspine.com and find one in your area. Most chiropractors will work with you on cost. We use ours for health maintenance as well.

Congratulations on your little one!

Go to the chiropractor and start getting semi-regular massages! I had sciatic problems late in my first and because of a car accident, I had it the whole second one! If managed early and regularly, it shouldn't get too much worse as you (and baby) grow.

Actually, it COULD be happening already. I had this problem that early on. Things are softening and changing already with your body, so it's normal, as you know.
Ahhh, the "joys" of pregnancy!

I had it starting around 9 weeks. Actually earlier, but 9 weeks was when I saw my doc and figured out what was going on. I was shocked too, there just isn't that much growing going on yet! But your uterus has already gotten quite a bit larger than normal, and there isn't that much room down there, so it is just sitting wrong.

My doctor recommended physical therapy, chiro, and I have also heard massage is good. (has to be chiros and massage specifically for pregnant women to be safe). PT is usually covered by insurance, chiro is sometimes, massage is usually not. I recommend getting some sort of help, since mine still hurts 2 1/2 yrs later. I should have taken the PT when I had insurance that would cover it even if it was only partly. Now, I have to meet my deductible first and since I don't have lots of medical bills, I won't do that for a long time. There are some stretches you can do too- Pelvic Tilts and some yoga poses (the one where you are on hands and knees and arch your back upward then straighten). If you see a therapist, they can show you how to do these. Definitely ask the doc for things you do at home too. Good luck, I know how miserable it can be!

I had that (not sure how far along) but I know it was earlier with my 2nd child. My friend is a PTA and she suggested I do lots of stretching (lay down and put one knee over the opposite leg and turn your body so you feel a stretch in your lower back). Also do leg lifts - where if you are sitting, you straighten your leg out and up. You could probably research this too. I remember that pain and it's horrible!

I had the same problem. I went to a chiropractor and was "fixed" an hour later. I highly recommend seeing one.
