There's a coupon code for buy 2 get 2 free at Yankee candle for the large jar candles... I got 4 for $60. Those are the only candles I use.
I haven't burned scented candles in the home in FOREVER but am interested in doing it again. Is there a cost effective brand or a way to enhance the scent by adding oils to it?? I've been looking at them on Etsy, Amazon etc. and it seems like a larger candle i.e. Yankee is about $25. Any ways to stretch the length of the scent? Cheaper but great smelling brands?
Thanks everyone....!
Wow! Thanks for sharing your ideas/candle brands etc. I appreciate it a lot!!

I prefer Yankee Candle. Not only do they smell great, but they don't generate the smoke that cheaper candles all seem to do. And the wicks burn cleanly without leaving blobs of soot on the top of the candle when you blow it out.
What I do (rather than buying the large candles, which I get tired of before they are completely burned), is buy the scented tea lights. Each one burns about 3-4 hours (that's as long as I would ever burn a candle before needing to blow it out anyway), and I just toss it when it's done. Each box comes with a dozen... and you can change the scents as frequently as every time you burn one!
Just buy a seasonal holder to put them in for a nice display, and change the scents to whatever you want. Salted Caramel is one of my newer favorites. But so is Cinnamon vanilla. Yum!
If by "adding oils" you mean putting a scented oil on the top of a candle - please don't. The oils aren't designed for that and it could be a fire hazard if the open flame of the candle touches the oil pooled under it.
I see many scented candles for low prices at places like Target and Wal-Mart, and chain drugstores and even grocery stores, all the time but can't vouch for how long the scents last or how good the scents are. My daughter likes scented wax -- you get a wax burner (either electric, for maybe $10 to $20, or a ceramic one for as little as $8-$15; the ceramic ones use tea light candles) and then you purchase pieces of scented wax made for these burners; the wax melts and creates a scent. It seems more cost-effective than pricey candles and she can mix different scented pieces to create a new, third scent . The most cost-effective part: The wax melts but leaves behind a disk of wax, which you can just keep re-melting over and over. Takes it quite a while to finally get used up!
honestly, after the first time I used the walmart brand (I think the brand is "Mainstays") I swore off Yankee Candles. (and I was a die hard fan). I still like Yankee for their scent selection, but the Walmart ones smell up the house very nicely.
I like Yankee and Bath/Body works candles. I stock up when I catch them on sale.
BB routinely puts the 3 wick that runs about $25 on a special 2/$20 or a coupon for 20-30% off.
I especially like the plug ins with night light. Those last a while and smell great. I also catch them on sale.
I'm a fan of Yankee candles myself but they are pricey and I can't do them very often.

I used to love to burn candles, but with kids and dogs in the house it sometimes felt unsafe so I fell out of the practice. I have since found a plug in wax burner (like the ones they sell at scenty) and many scents I love for a very reasonable price at Walmart (they also sell the same ones at Fred Meyers). They put out so much more scent then my old candles did, there are so many choices, and they still put off a soft glow with the light bulb inside. Best part, when I am tired of, or get used to, one scent I can recycle the wax by pouring it back into the container it came in and pick a different one. When doing so I have noticed that even with several days of burning very little wax is used.
well, you can find cheapies, but i've found you get what you pay for, and i just don't like the small of cheap candles. the only ones i've found on the lower end of the price spectrum that i like are the ones at michael's.
mostly i keep an eye on the sales at yankee (yes, they're rare and the dang things are still expensive) and stock up when i can. and ask santa for them!
i would not add oils to a cheap candle. sounds like a house fire waiting to happen.
i DO have light bulb rings to which i can add scented oils, and i like them and use them sometimes. but since i like the ambience of candles, i generally have a scented candle burning. having good scented candles is one of my little extravagances.

Buy them on sale. IMO it is better to buy a good candle than to have a bad candle. They last a long time. Cheap candles burn faster and some brands give me a headache. I buy Yankee or Candelite at the end of a season for cheaper. There's also a local candle maker who uses soy.
Why not use Scentsy, or off brands of that? It's much cheaper.
Check out the selection at Family Dollar and Dollar Tree. I find nicely scented candles for little cost.
I've tried many brands of candles, wax and soy, expensive and cheap.
My favorite scented candle comes from Walmart. Their large Mainstays jar candles are about $5 and are just the right strength, imo. They also have mini jars, melts, pillars and other formats.
The one I love is called Mulled Cider. Normally I don't care for apple scents, but this one smells wonderful to me. They tend to only carry that scent in the fall & winter though.
Another favorite is Creme Brulee from Home & Garden Party. I've had the same jar candle for years! The scent is so strong that I only have it lit for 10-15 minutes at a time. That branding doesn't exist anymore, they go by Celebrating Home now. I don't know if the current candles are as good.
