Scared of the Dentist

I've never had anything wrong with my teeh until now. I have a baby tooth at the age of 17 and it's loose but won't fall out. My adult tooth is growing already and mom said that I should get it pulled but I'm scared that it'll hurt. Does it hurt when they numb your mouth? What do that use to numb it? That's all I'm really worried about is the numbing part hurting. Thanks!

What can I do next?

You know what it is like to get a shot at the doctor, right? You've had routine vaccinations, I'm assuming.

The dentist I use also uses a numbing agent on top of the gum, and then gives the shot to numb the area. Yes, there is a bit of pain, but it really isn't that much, and it goes away pretty quickly. It is mostly a little "prick".

depending on how loose it is-" like almost ready to come out and can twist it but still attached loose"- we had a hanging (but attached) tooth in my young son's mouth and he wanted it out . He was afraid he would swallow it at night ( this however was his first tooth loose) and dental floss did the trick. A dentist will probably just twist and pull it and it will be over very quickly but hard to say without knowing how loose. It sounds a bit on older side for baby tooth so always best to get dentist's opinion but if you want to try - clean hands and dental floss made a clean separation of tooth and gum for my little guy and didn't hurt him. I just couldn't pull it . Also had hubby do the dental floss trick. Have clean mouth and rinse after. Regardless what you do, I would see dentist either way before or after tooth coming out. Good luck. There is always a crisp apple....

You have a long difficult life ahead if you work more on avoiding pain than on doing what needs to be done. Go to the dentist!

I have a phobia of dentists but taking care of my teeth is way more important than worrying about a tiny amount of pain.

BTW, you can go to a dentist that will give you a red liquid to drink, it will make you very sleepy and you won't remember a thing.
