Scared My Pregnancies with C-sections Are Too Close Together

I'm pregant for the fifth time. I have had four births, two of those c-sections. The last birth was in February 2010 and I found out yesterday I'm pregnant again. I'm concerned about these being too close together with the c-section. Has anyone else gone through this?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the great comments!! MY OB said they realeased a new study saying, c-sections spaced 18 months apart were perfectly fine and safe. He did say he wants me to have a repeat c-section, but doesn't see any problems unless I have some pain and tearing senseation in my abd. So far at 16 weeks I'm doing great!!

I had two c-sections 18 months apart and did fine. In fact, I healed faster with my last one. Good luck and Congratulations!

I haven't experienced this personally, but I have a really close friend who had a baby in July of 09 and will have another the end of November or beginning of December this year. Her doctor wasn't thrilled that she got pregnant only 7 months after her c-section, but she said as long as my friend took it easy, things should be just fine. You have had more time to heal, so I'm sure you will be okay, too.

Good luck and congratulations!!

Hello R.. My cousins wife went through something similiar. She has 3 boys, all 3 c-sections, but the last 2 are only 10 months apart. She was very worried at first too, because she wasn't completly healed from her second c-section when her belly was gonna start growing again, but her delivery was fine, she didn't have any problems at all. Good luck to you, and I hope all goes well.

I just had my fifth baby with it being my 4th C-Section in a row. My closest C-Sections were two years apart. I did great on all mine except my 1st and 3rd sections. But even then, I still healed within that 6 week time. Good luck! Congratulations!

I had my second C-section 15 months from the 1st one. It went great! Recovery wasn't quite as speedy, but still I felt great with no meds after 1 1/2 weeks. Good luck to you!

supposedly your body needs a year to get normal again. By the time you give birth it will have been a year. Ask your OB....

Congratulations! It's recommended to use a birth control method and wait at least 2 yrs after a birth to get pregnant. However, if you're healthy and have no complications you'll be fine. You will not need to have a C-Section, unless it's absolutely necessary. So glad the "new guidelines" are finally somewhat reflecting what many have known for years - that C-Sections are done to often without need. Partially due to Practitioner ignorance and impatience, partially due to lack of education of the mother. They should only be done in case of extreme emergency.

Most provider will want the deliveries to be at least 18 mo to 2 yrs apart. You are, of course, a candidate for a vaginal birth if you don't want another cesarean. ACOG just released the new guidelines that said even moms with 2 cesareans were fine if they'd had a previous vaginal birth under their belts. I don't know where in TN Heiskell is, but there are three ICAN chapter in the state. www.ican-online.org
