Scar Away - Anyone Used It on Large Scars?

I never used scar away, but I did use two other products when my son needed something for his "harry potter" scar and chicken pox scars on his face. He was two with chicken pox scars all over his face, he was so bad and I used "pretty feet and hands" on his face twice a day for a couple of months (worked really, really well-smooth face). For his other scar he was about 3 and fell onto the garden fence and had a pretty bad scar underneath his eye. I used Mederma Advanced for that scar for 6 months-no scar. He is a handsome 25 year old man now....

I think a lot depends on the size/severity of the scar, and what the effect will be on a very young child if you focus on this. My child poked a hole in his cheek with a piece of metal he was holding when he went down a slide - metal stuck in ground, other end stuck in cheek. Saw the pediatrician who wouldn't touch it, went to the ER for a whole bunch of waiting and debate. Plastic surgeon wouldn't bother suturing it because it was an L shape and blah-blah-blah. I was pretty freaked out by the whole injury. Lo and behold, he's completely healed without any evidence of a scar now.

So I think waiting has merit. But if doctors who have seen your child said you could try this product, I do't see why you wouldn't since you are so worried. Just be aware that you may have her paying attention to this for no reason if you keep putting emphasis (and product) on it.

Don't overthink things because it will likely not be noticeable when she's older. Care for it per your Dr instructions.

For sure don't let her know your concern because the last thing you need is to make her feel self conscious about it.

I've not heard of that product. Before I'd use anything on a 2 yr old face, I'd be consulting with a dermatologist. Her skin might be too sensitive or she might have an allergic reaction which could make things much worse.

I have not, but I would like to reassure you that you shouldn't worry about this too much. One of mine had a sizable cut on his chin, and now, two years later, its a very fine white line that you can't even see unless you are looking closely. I didn't put anything on it - given time, kids just tend to heal well.

If you are really concerned due to the size or where it is on her face, I would consult with a pediatric dermatologist.

I used a scar product for about a year on my giant stretch marks from being pregnant. They were so big they were breaking through the skin when I was pregnant so the scars are pretty bad. It didn't seem to do anything. I guess it doesn't hurt to use it though. I would not worry too much about your daughter bc children's skin is amazing. My friend's daughter was attacked by a dog who ripped part of her face when she was 2 yrs old. She had surgery but her face was pretty scarred. I first met her in preschool and it was very noticeable. Every year the scars seem to disappear a little. She's going into high school and you can't really even see them anymore. It's pretty amazing.

I never used any over the counter products on my kids without asking my pediatrician first, especially when they were so young. PLEASE just pick up the phone and ask the doctor or nurse line, or at the very least ask the pharmacist!

I have not used it. But if one of the drs said to use it go ahead and try it. As long as it stays away from her eyes it should be ok. My son had 19 stitches on his forhead years ago. It took time to fade to where it was not as noticeable but since it was high and he's a boy we didn't worry about making it fade.

I know this doesn't answer your question, but I will share this in case helpful. I have a large scar and Bio Oil was recommended for me. The doctors said the scar healed nicely.

Vitamin E helps with scars.

ScarAway is a silicon patch.
Can your 2 yr old tolerate the product on her face and not pick at it or eat it?
2 and even 3 yr olds are still putting everything into their mouths.
If she can leave it alone then it's worth a try.
If she'll mess with it then I'd worry she might choke on it.

If you can't use a patch, then using vitamin E oil on it several times a day might work.
It won't matter if she rubs it or it gets into her mouth.
