My daughter was diagnosed by her doctor with scabies. Apparently she caught it from a friend who spent the night. We have cleaned and washed everything per the doctors instrcutions and she has done the "all over body pesticide cream" thing. My question is how long will she be itchy and is it normal to get new bumps after using the cream? Any help here would be great as she is feeling "gross" and wondering when there will be some relief.
THANKS!

My neighbors daughter had scabies a few years back and the doctor said she got them from their dog. You have five pets in the house so she may have not gotten them from the friend that stayed but from one of your pets. Is her friend a dirty person. They usually come from dirty households. But I do know that scientists are making new finds every day. But the good news is if your home is clean, your pets are clean and you did all the treatment correctly she shouldn't get any more new spots. She shouldn't feel "gross" she will come in contact with all kinds of illnesses growing up, like head lice. She may get them and she may not. It's not her fault so explain it to her that it's just a part of life.

From what I remember, it takes a looonngg time! The scabie burrow in thin skin places and even though you "killed" them with the pesticide, they still itch for a long time. Maybe because she's so young it will be different. Hope so.

The mites are still under her skin even though they're dead and her body is going to produce histamines in response to the decaying mites so it would make sense for her to get some new bumps after having been treated. It shouldn't last that long though, if it's been longer than a few days call her doctor to double check. In the meantime give her either a topical or oral antihistamine to control itching.

Oh - and instead of dipping your pets you can get Revolution from the vet, one dose is all it usually takes.

did u treat your animals as well? scabies are sarcopic scabia ( spelling) better known as sarcopic mange. its actually quite common for humans to catch and or give it to their pets. a trip to the vet may be in order to completely get rid of them from your home. we have had scabies 1 time since i had kids and it came from the family dogs at the time. did everything imaginable and finally went to the dr and he informed me as long as the dogs had it we would we would need to dip the dogs. after dipping the dogs then treating ourselves scabies gone. look and see if your animals are missing any fur in patches thats a sign they have them.
