My 2 kids had them when they were young once. They were no big deal other than the itch, and no one else caught it from them. They got it when they slept in a bed with some other kids at a sleepover at someone's house.
We washed our sheets/pillow cases and towels etc.
Then I went to the drug store and bought some "cream" made just for it. Just ask the pharmacist. I laid sleeping bags on the floor that night, and put a sheet or beach towel over it and slathered them from head to toe (no joke) with the cream and put them to bed. In the morning they showered off, I washed the sheets and that was that.. never saw them again.
After you treat, check the "folds" on your children.
Behind the knees, armpits, neck etc, they like the "sweaty" folds.. :)
If the treatment doesn't work. I'd get a 2nd option as others have suggested to be 100% sure it is scabies and not another skin disorder. If I recall, they look like thin red lines, as they "burrow" under the skin - it's been at least 12 years I think..
Good Luck
